Can anyone try this out for me?
« on: July 15, 2010, 06:41:48 pm »
I had a really cool idea for getting the CAS os on the old blue nspire. However, it requires a few things that I'm not sure of. For it to work, the new CAS nspire's pad (which is removable now) must fit into the regular nspire. My idea was, use the blue clickpad to uninstall the nspire os, insert the CAS pad, then install the CAS os 2.0, since hopefully the nspire will see the CAS pad and assume you have a CAS, instead of an original nspire.

Anyone happen to have both of these? I'm quite curious myself, but I don't have a cas touchpad.

I was actually considering doing this myself when the new keypads first came out, but I was too cheap to buy the keypad from TI's website.  I think the CAS keypad will fit into the regular Nspire.  It is curved at the top but I think that would only prevent the regular Nspire keypads (particularly the 84 one) from fitting into the Nspire CAS.  Sadly, I doubt this method would work because I think it is the signing keys that will not allow the OS to be sent, not the keypad.

I moved this to the calc discussion section as it is posted in the wrong sub-forum.

Also, I'm not sure if discussing ways to install the CAS OS on the regular Nspire, in public or via PM, abides by the forum rules (specifically rule #5), so I am locking this topic.
