Hard Drive Wiped
« on: February 19, 2010, 12:18:34 am »
I regret to inform you all that my hard drive was wiped from an accidental format, i was unable to recover my projects and will be starting them over from scratch, new topics will be made for each project and the old ones locked.
luckily this is not as bad as it sounds, i probably have Piworld PC on my other computer, and Pifreak still has the original BasiC++ source, so when i say starting over from scratch that is a bit of an exaggeration. However i may/may not start them over from scratch anyway for various reasons.

You should totally get one of those free programs that restores you hard drive in exchange for free malware ;)

But seriously that sucks X.x Glad you still have some code (and all the experience that comes with writing it ;D)

Ouch this sucks, hardware crashes are always bad, especially when you have no backup (or little to none). I hope you can recover from an older backup of Piworld.

Question, though, was Piworld for calc affected too, or did you have a copy on calc?

Either way don't give up, it would suck is this killed all projects :/, but I would understand, as this happened to me before, once (Illusiat 2002: The Ultimate Quest)

ouch ><

That is why I keep all important projects and things on flash drives now.

Good luck with recovery!

* Galandros wants to know about Piworld for calc, too.

At least now you can remake some things with better skills.

yes the calc version of piworld is still fully backed up, the only projects i lost were the following: Piworld PC, BasiC++, Trillcron, and a xp calculator for the game SAO written in BrainFuck, Trillcron and the xp calc were not posted here tho. I also lost some logs, some music, and some games, but thats pretty much everything. I am kind of excited to get a fresh start on all my projects tho, having that past programming experience will definetly make for better results in the end, plus this whole ordeal has really reminded me of the importance of making multiple backups and frequently saving :)

Yep, you can turn this wipe into a positive thing: a lesson to better backup.

Talking of backups: I ought to backup some things...

Yeah true, always backup, but I agree it can let you remake your stuff even better, tho, altough on my side I get discouraged when losing everything on a project x.x
