6th option, because I tend to not do utilities like Ndless, DCS and Axe and if I do games, I never really do much games using copyrighted titles like Zelda or Mario. Just having the Zelda and Mario title increases your chances to win POTY.

It seems like people like the POTY less than they used to, though. A problem is that while a lot of programs get featured, the fact they tend to be featured late, that sometimes the community has to fight to get them featured (like Axe Parser) and the lower amount of news has caused the amount of votes to not be very high. Also there's the fact that it makes it unfair if two ultra-notable programs gets featured the same year (example: Doors CS 7 and Axe or Desolate and Acelgoyobis) because only one win. It seems that people would prefer if all features were considered equal instead of trying to tell which one is better than the other.

But personally I don't mind if I win or not, as long as I get featured. I think it can be fun if there's a little competition every year or so, though, because it can encourage people to work harder on programs to get featured.

I hope I can get a feature this year with a program (yet to do). There's also a change tiDE is featured, but not even sure if Sir plans on having all of us as authors.

I just prefer PC Development rather than Calculator Development.

Although, if POTY was set up with different categories, kinda like the Oscars, that would probably help...

can we keep this on topic? The topic is about what the big thing might be, NOT SEX

yeah the Oscars were cool because of this ;D

Also, I'm not sure how ticalc.org staff decides what gets featured or not. They only feature good stuff, but do they feature all good stuff?

True. Usually utilities competes against programming tools and games. But during the second part of 2010, with the exception of July, I noticed it took everything to get a program featured. I think I had to bug ticalc.org about 3 times to get Axe featured when it reached maturity. It is far less bad than in 2007-08, though. At least the current staff did a good job in overall so far and files are still processed rather fast compared to what I've seen before.

I remember in 2007-08 files got added once per month and about 200 would show up on the front page. It was typical to see the pending queue reach 300-600. http://web.archive.org/web/20080619150113/http://www.ticalc.org/

@Scout ticalc features everything they judge newsworthy. People can e-mail them feature suggestions, but the staff have the last word. The problem for the most part is that they're busy and the most active staff doesn't own a z80 calc, so TI-84 Plus and TI-Nspire stuff gets missed easily or featured extremly late. They test programs before featuring them to judge if they're good or not, but it doesn't help if they do not own the calculator the program runs on.

For categories there could be something like:
-Most innovative
-Best rpg
-best casual game
-best development tool/shell (there aren't to many of these)
-best action game
-best math/science tool (there are few good ones out there)

Or it could be broken up by development language so:
-best TI-BASIC program
-best z80 asm program
-best axe program
-best modified basic program (bbc xlib)

List of stuff I need to do before September:
1. Finish the Emulator of the Casio Prizm (in active development)
2. Finish the the SH3 asm IDE/assembler/linker program (in active development)
3. Create a partial Java virtual machine  for the Prizm (not started)
4. Create Axe for the Prizm with an Axe legacy mode (in planning phase)
5. Develop a large set of C and asm libraries for the Prizm (some progress)
6. Create an emulator of the 83+ for the Prizm (not started)
7. Create a well polished game that showcases the ability of the Casio Prizm (not started)

It needs to not be split too much either, though. SOme years there were like 8 featured programs and the 68K category had like 3-5.

What happened????? O.O

I rather like those options, but I think that the community involvement would have to pick up a bit before that could happen.

(speaking of which, I'm headed over to see the results :D)

I think this is missing a key option: My goal is not to obtain awards; it is to learn, have fun, and produce things others may appreciate.
