Programming on a real calculator VS Programming on

Just taking a poll to see how people would rather program. Maybe I'll try doing it on a virtual calculator if it wins by a lot... I wish they would allow Ti-84+ SE rom files...  ^o)

well i dont see the point to do it on a virtual calc since emulators wont let you save 8xp files... but if you meant on the PC using an editor then i recommend it for those who can't stand the small screen. I myself code on calc because i am too used to it to get used to PC. I started calcs 2 years before i got my first PC anyway

Most people code on calc, because there would be no purpose to coding on an emulator. It would be slower having to use a mouse to click the keys, or if using a keyboard it would seem weird because the keys are mapped way differently. Also, the only reason most people test on an emulator is if they are testing an ASM program so in the event of a crash they dont damage their calculator. Coding on calc also gives you the advantage of being able to test instantly. As Kevin said you can write BASIC on a PC, but the only good editor is the one that was distributed with TI's old graphlink (as far as I know anyways). That software is rather hard to find though these days, unless you know someone that has a copy lying around.

I prefer to code on calc, as I have come accustomed to the layout of commands. It is sad to say but I can type faster on calc than on the PC (not exactly faster, but close). There are many great programming tools out there, I would like to write one myself (for my better needs).

You can find many versions of the graph link software here (scroll down).

no emu, but ya on the comp.

you know, if it wasn't for the fact the emus don't handle groups very well, I wonder if it'd be practical to send a basic program to a comp and test it on an emu.

To test the speed of it running on other models is useful.

true, the only problem is the shitty emu grayscale quality in BASIC. You cannot adjust the quality on an emu, this need to be done on a real calc

Heh, ive got you beat. Command prompt on a monochrome "greenscale" mac. Oh, and an old X86 IMB with DOS. :P
It really is a shame that most emus dont handle groups or grayscale in BASIC well. I was rather impressed how wabbit handles grascale in general though. I wouldn't be surprised if it looked fairly decent in wabbit, and IIRC it does have some adjustment that can be made to the display.

@art of camelot But how old were you when you started using computers?
/off topic

give me a calc any day for testing or coding.

BTW My little bro reset my ram and I lost about 1 hr of work on animal crossing ti. I had it so only the start program was in the ram. but now I need to rewrite that program. Also I was working on the catalog so all progress on that was fried :(
Short and sweet. :)

i hope at least you still have most of your other progress o.o

make sure to continue doing backups, this way it is more safe (unless your bro delete them x.x)

[/offtopic]would've been about 6 or 7. Don't remember exactly when they started taking us to the computer lab in school. That's where the old macs were. [/offtopic]
