TI-Nspire 84+ emulator - hate it.
« on: September 15, 2011, 02:23:27 pm »
Yes, mine is always crashing, failng, and just plain not working right.

I've had to force RAM clear it 5 times already.

I feel like returning my TI-Nspire and getting my money back and buying a TI-84+SE.

Seriously, I don't understand. I use and abuse mine and never had any issues. My only problem is not being able to play thepenguin77's Chess, because it uses crystal timers, but no more problems.

Did you try any programs that don't work on it, such as thepenguin77's Chess?

When I first got my TI-Nspire Clickpad with OS 1.6, at some occasions the calc would reboot even if it did not go in sleep mode nor crashed, then the entire RAM and archive would be gone. I did not have this issue with OS 1.7, but Illusiat 13 development took a long while before moving to my TI-Nspire because of this.

Also MirageOS as well as some older games won't work on it, because they use undocumented ASM opcodes.

Sounds like a plan.  If you're using it primarily for that purpose anyways, might as well get the real thing; the real thing will be able to work with all programs (I know, someone will pretend to be smart and mention missing RAM pages but...) quite nicely.

Unless a 84+SE is actually more expensive than the Nspire+84 keypad (like me when I bought my Nspire in 2009) :P

Hopefully, however, maybe someone will create a new emulator for it, although I bet it will be an issue fior those with newer OSes, due to the lack of Ndless. X.x

Yeah sadly this is a project that requires lots of effort, skills and time, even for someone like Calc84maniac, who is also busy with school.

-OR- I could just return it, get the money back, and use the money to build a prototype dreamCalc!

It'll take a *lot* more money than that to build a prototype of pretty much anything. :P.  Plus, old NSpires sell cheap, they're considered rather useless how.

And they're wrongly considered rather useless, since their math capabilities are the same than those of the CX series, and their programmability is higher than that of the CX series. Of course, their horrible screen remains.

* Qwerty.55 remembers a prototype generator he built. It cost him $300 to machine the parts for the thing.

Plus considering the fact they're ugly, and TI didn't do a great job teaching teachers how to use them.  Just about no one bought them in Fairfax or Loudon, where people actually had money to buy it, which says a lot.  I personally also think it's rather junky :P

Here at my school, the teachers only use the 84 keypad.

One teacher was stunned when she found out about the functionality about the nSpire. XD

My CAS reboots sporadically, too. The keypad (for some reason) sometimes loses touch with the contacts. :/

When I used to play with the emulator often, I constantly had to resend my Nspire OS to take care of these emulator issues.  I wish TI would have done a better job coding it in the first place. :/
