TI NSpire 84+ Keypad
« on: December 08, 2010, 12:57:49 pm »
Well, I use a 84+ Keypad and there are a few things it is better than 84+ and S.E. and 83+:
  • Bigger Screen, same resolution;
  • We can use some headphones adaptors that can't be used in the 84+ and S.E., since the adapter won't fit the hole;
  • The screen can be cleared using CLEAR and keep all the calculus and stuff we did before accessible by going up;
  • The keys are much more pleasant to use and get damaged less easily (this is my personal opinion, though);
  • A RESET Button can be used, unlike in 83+ series, we have tu remove battery;
  • The calculator itself is bigger than 83+ series, which I like (once again, personal opinion);
  • Use 2nd+Mode+ON+0 to reset all memory, archive and RAM.

However:
  • Transfer OSs using it;
  • It crashes all the time (Inequalz, for example, after 3 days open crashes);
  • Some TI Connect issues I believe;

Well, I like it more than 84+ and 83+ Series :D

Most people are always blaming it and cursing it in forums, I don't think so... What about you?

Personally, I think it's okay, but it does have issues like the missing undocumented instructions and no os upgrading. It would be awesome if there was an 8x emulator for the nspire, with 100% compatibiliy and debugging features, though.

Will we be able to put KnightOS there?

This works on all 84+(SE)s with 2.53MP, too. Personally, I hate this function.

If an emulator like that is made, it would be possible and probably not very hard compared to doing it on WabbitEmu or an actual 83+/84+.

Ohh! Then it's my friends that don't have 2.53MP.

I love that function, actually. Clear Entries helps us a lot.

I prefer a real 84+ because on the Nspire 84+ keypad MirageOS requires a patch to work (although now there's Doors CS), it doesn't support undocumented instructions so complex programs like TI-Boy SE will not run and there are various incompatibility issues. Also, 15 MHz games won't fully run at 15 MHz.

Another issue is that the reset button doesn't work all the time, especially on OS 2.0 or later. Sometimes you need to do a certain key combination and it resets both the RAM and Archive, not just the RAM.

Another issue is that when reinstalling the OS, you end up with about 40 APPS pre-installed that you don't need.

Otherwise, I like to be able to swap keypads and the fact it's two calcs into one.

So, it's not that bad.

No GameBoy emulator? Didn't know about it :(

Well, you can just use gbc4nspire. It isn't restricted by the 84 screen, and also supports gameboy color games.

It'll be the same one, so you will need to use bleary.
