Why Do You Program on Your Calculator?
« on: September 01, 2011, 05:13:02 pm »
Hey guys, I'm just curious  ;D
I do it because the computer already has all (most of) the software anyone could ever think of. The calculator front has much more open room for creativity. Another part of it is that the calculator is just so portable and is allowed everywhere (like in classrooms) where computers and phones can't go. It gives me a happy feeling to be able to carry a program I made everywhere, and impress my friends.  :) Finally, things like slow processors and scarce RAM pose an interesting challenge to programmers not found in other platforms.

What do you guys think?

Are you wondering who Sammy is? My avatar is Sammy.

To get girls.

Make my calc more usable.
Making 2 player games is rare, so i enjoy that.

A lot of people here STARTED programming with calculators. Personally I do it for most of the reasons sammyMaX said in his post. It's an interesting challenge to make functional games at tolerable speeds with restricted graphics and memory. It's also very portable.

Yeah, my first language was TI-BASIC, which got me into programming.

Of course, because it's handheld and allowed in classrooms, and it's not computer programming. Which is mainstream. (hipster mode on :P)

I program so I can be famous for making programs. No, really.

I program because I can, therefore I must. :P
After all, don't we do what we must because we can?

Spoiler For Projects:

My projects haven't been worked on in a while, so they're all on hiatus for the time being. I do hope to eventually return to them in some form or another...

Spoiler For Pokemon TI:
Axe port of Pokemon Red/Blue to the 83+/84+ family. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia:
My big personal project, an original RPG about dimensional travel and a few heroes tasked with saving the world.
Coding-wise, on hold, but I am re-working the story.

Spoiler For Finale's Super Insane Tunnel Pack of Doom:
I will be combining Blur and Collision Course into a single gamepack. On hold.

Spoiler For Nostalgia Origins: Sky's Story:
Prequel to Nostalgia. On hold, especially while the story is re-worked.

I personally don't program on my 8x calcs anymore much (just math utilities now to aid with.. Math) but I do program in C on my Prizm.

I program for three reasons: to practice and get better, to feel accomplished, and to win stuff.
