What does the calculator say on the front of it? There's two different hardware versions - one says "USB Power Graphic" and the other says "USB Power Graphic 2". I'm pretty sure the process is about the same with both, but I've only done it with the older one.

This has a number of links and is worth reading through.
Specifically this pdf. Unfortunately there isn't an English translation that I'm aware of, but you can copy/paste the text into google translate or similar and it should work fine.

Process is the same, but the file used is different. Also, Casio stopped putting "Power Graphic 2" on the new ones, so there are some SH4 ones with "Power Graphic" on the front. Ah, the confusion.

Anyway, I forget how to see which one you have, but Spyro had an SH4 one with "Power Graphic" on it, you may want to ask him how he found out that it wasn't an older one.

I don't quite remember exactly what I did, but I found something I wrote some time ago:
I had this same problem. When you get that error message, press the F2, AC/on, 4, and RESTART (on the back) buttons. Then release them. Next, press and release the 9 key, and press and release the x key (multiply key). Then try recovering the flash. Also, your calculator could be the new model (Power Graphic 2). Try recovering with the "2_02_0201_sh4.fls" file.
