Well, they're all a little older than that. The first calc watch came out in '75, but the first databank came out in '83. So, your timing was about right, just off by a few years.
Oh Ok. Funny, though, how the design of the first calc watch hasn't even changed at all since then. At Zellers (which is being replaced by Target) a few weeks ago, I saw one exactly like that.

Yup. Their design is identical, but the price just keeps dropping. Now you can get one for around $20 at Wal-mart.

Pssh, the databank ones aren't old school.

These are the old school ones. Databanks are new in comparison.

Well I checked Google for images of the Databank ones, and they still look kinda old school. The one you posted looks like it was designed in the early 80's (back when every electronic was rectangular-shaped) and the Databanks I saw on Google looked like 1989-92 electronics :P.

Dude!

I had a watch just like that! :D

update: I need one very important part: the microcontroller which has not arrived yet. I started writing and testing the firmware a few days ago using an arduino. Now, as some of you might have heard on the IRC, it has got an onboard brainf**k interpreter and it can keep track of time and date. I wrote 10kB of code so far (compiled) and I have 20k of program space left.

It has got 3 buttons for user input and a 84*48px backlit lcd display.

This is breadboarded up for now, but when all of the parts are here I can build the watch.

That, my friend is awesome. :D I wondered why you were asking for font info for the other day (for a watch) This explains it! :D
*edit*
I'm kind of surprised you haven't made a topic about it showing off the process etc.

Progress:

This is just the strap with a little box on top of it. I have to drill holes for the buttons and make a top to cover up everything that's not the lcd. I will paint it.

I totally missed this when this was posted, but really good job! Have you made further progress on it? It is starting to look like what you might see in some futuristic movies from the '80s. :P

I did make some firmware updates which include a little music player, but not much new stuff has been done ever since. I tried to fit a battery in it, but the original cr2030 batteries could not supply enough current for the backlight and the speaker, so I might have to get another type of battery.

Oh a music player sounds cool. It must be annoying for classmates, though. :P

Sorry to hear about the battery, though.
