Copy of my email reply to Stefan.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I've been away from my computer for almost a month now and just missed a payment. Service should be returned by tomorrow. It's all up to my host now. I don't plan on this happening again and apologize for the inconvenience. (If you wanted to start migrating, I wouldn't blame you though.)

Regards,
Jeff "{AP}" Delgado

Still not at a computer so I won't be able to reply to anything until Saturday night. Again, I'm really sorry.

EDIT: By the way, what will happen to userbars.removedfromgame.com?

Nothing. It'll stay around. Heck, I may even update it in the future.

Hence why I decided against it.

and BTW, what kinda server did you host your image hoster on? (also specs)

It's just a 1and1 server. I have no specs on the matter. (it's likely a shared server cluster or something) I only pay about $40 once every 3 months and have unlimited bandwidth and a space limit so high I don't actually know what it is.

Indeed he posted :P. Also for rule following, if someone wants to troll he's certainly not gonna follow rules. And I know AP is involved in non-Omni communities, so it is possible that he ran into people elsewhere that got angry at him or something and they happen to know his tools and server.
You could be right there. No clue who did it. I didn't bother to log anything about uploaders at all.

Also, if you want a copy of the image directory, ask Geekboy for the link. I was originally going to just post it on this topic, but I realized that maybe not all of it should just be out in public. There are some pictures in it that seem personal, but I actually haven't seen all of it... However, I'm sure Geekboy can judge whether or not whoever requests the link should have it.

(Actually, he'll probably have to set up his own copy of it if people want it. He's going through now and found a LOT of stuff that I missed that's pretty bad. =/ His call.)

Sorry for the sudden take down without much warning, geekboy got a hold of me and here's what I told him about it.

Quote
No one got more [information] than what's on the page now, but essentially, someone's been randomly uploading a bunch of pornographic pictures in chunks randomly (probably multiple people because some are animated gifs and some looked like they were self pics from a cellphone) and I haven't had the time to manually get rid of them all.

It's really a matter of disrespect though. That's the only real rule I had and it was being broken repeatedly. Besides, some days I'd like to check my email without penises in face. (not to mention my host doesn't allow that sort of content... it's not like they'd just shut down the sites, but they'd want me to go through and get rid of them all) I could probably handle it a bit better if I actually finished the system to moderate the images, but right now I have to go in and find the file in question and either just delete it or replace it.

I guess I was being a little petty about it since I've been going through a lot, but I just got tired of it. I can get it back up and running if you guys still really want it. (though it's a surprise that this still gets used with much better solutions out there)

To direct answer some questions brought up in the topic:

Q: Can you give others mod privileges?
A: Unfortunately, I never set up a moderation system. I planned on it, but just didn't have the time. How the 'system' works now is, once a image is successfully uploaded a email with the image is sent to my personal email (to make sure I check it). If it's inappropriate, then I have to load up my FTP program, scroll through the thousands of images (list of file names) to find the bad one, then delete it or (as I usually do) replace it with an image with the same name and a warning so the offender sees it and has no excuse to repeat it. This wasn't working and took entirely too much time due to how often people were uploading this stuff.

Q: When will it come back?
A: Well, I planned to get it back up when I had a bit more time and cooled off some, but geekboy is trying to replace now... so unless you guys don't like his version of the site or his version dies/has issues, it will stay down permanently.

Q: What will happen to all the images already uploaded?
A: They will continue to stay on my server until I die. (aka, they'll work forever) I'm downloading all of them as we speak so I can zip them up and share it here. Geekboy will apparently host a copy of them and anyone else is free to as well. Take note that this is over 8000 images, so it's pretty big and will take a good deal of time. Links should be up tomorrow sometime.

Aaand... I think that's it. (ask here if I missed something or there's something you want to know)

Again, I'm really sorry to have taken it down so quickly. I was responding based on my emotions instead of being rational. I hope the new uploader works out for you guys. I'm willing to help out however I can.

Might it be possible to use the same accounts from the userbar manager?

Now THERE'S an interesting idea.
I'll think more on this. I might make it to where you can log into ANY of my sites from the same account. (like F2P MMO companies do or even Google sites for that matter)

It's on my to-try-to-do list now.

You could make future images so the user can choose an expiration date and private/public option like Pastebin, though.

I might add that in regardless of if I go through with Darl181's suggestion or not.

To anyone who's used the image uploader since I got it back online, sorry for any weirdness that may have happened. Turned out that I didn't completely fix that page before putting it back online and all your images were both uploaded to the wrong place and if there was ever a duplicate filename, it gave out a completely wrong URL and made the file mostly inaccessible. Completely my fault for overlooking that.

It's properly fixed and I encourage you to re-upload anything you uploaded in the past few days. But you don't have to if it worked out... just know that these pictures will NOT be included in the backups made with the script I'll be making so if my sites ever get taken down permanently, then they'll be gone forever too.

Minor Update:
I finally made it to where the final URL given doesn't ever have any spaces in it which will allow for easier copy/pasting to a site and won't confuse any browsers.
Also, I fixed a bug which made images not resize properly for the preview. Ironically, it was because I was missing a space that it happened.

Of course then you need to upload them from the same ip every time, otherwise you won't see them

Yeah, that's the problem there. Lots of people have dynamic IPs or will be uploading from new computers/etc.
It's possible, but it'd be more annoying to the users than logging in would be.

Yeah, I completely neglected my front page earlier because I always had big plans for it that I never got around to actually working on.

Currently working on that PonyRank site. I plan on having it in Beta by Friday at the latest. Then it's back to the MMO projects.

The Image server hasn't been getting any updates because it's kinda doing everything it needs to do for now. I'd like to get a gallery up to let people look at everything uploaded... but at the same time it seems like an invasion of privacy that isn't really needed. I could possibly set up a log in system an let people manage all the images they upload, but I always wanted the site to be as quick as possible with nothing extra needed and logging into a site just to upload an image seems like it's just extra time. I may still do it and allow people to upload without ever logging in still so that those who WANT to manage the images they upload can do so and those that don't want to waste any time can just upload quick. Otherwise, I planned on a couple of visual things like a progress bar for those big images that take awhile to upload.

Let me know what you guys think of those ideas and if you have any more ideas for the image uploading site or any of my other projects.
Hell, feel free to suggest a new site altogether. I'm devoting more of my free time to web development so I can build up a portfolio.

(Oh and I still have to make that back-up script that DJ_Omni suggested. I'll see about getting that done this week too)

Alrighty, went ahead and spent 5-10 minutes throwing together a portal. (only took so long from the time it was suggested because I had to go shopping and cook/eat dinner)

I'll get something all new, fancy, and full of Javascript interactive-y-ness sometime in the future. (and stop re-using that same layout/theme)
I only have one site to get back online and I'll have that done tonight.

Oh, and yeah. I'm a brony. (as you'll notice by one of the sites made) Don't worry, I'm not the kind that posts pictures everywhere and I'm not going to shove ponies down anyone's throats. Hay, I've gone this long without anyone here knowing. Just letting you know before anyone freaks.

It's as DJ says about the main site. Then again, there was never much there in the first place because I don't know what I should put there anymore. I suppose I'll make it into some sort of portal to access the rest of the sites I've made. Maybe even have it be a place to showcase everything I've ever done. Not sure entirely. I'll come up with something.

Also, I'm kinda surprise the Pokemon story didn't get taken down because there was NO way I was re-doing. In fact, I was going to just get rid of it soon enough anyway and yet it wasn't hit. How annoying.

Oh well, I'll be back when I either have a job or have something worth showing you guys.
Hit me up on Google+ or PM me if something else comes up. I'll see the emails.

Good news!

I managed to find a back up of the Userbar site on my old laptop and it's now back online.

I'll work on getting something like that set-up soon. I think I can get a script up to do daily back-ups that will be accessible by whoever wants it.

Yeah, like I said. Those sites are all still down. I only fixed the image upload homepage because that's what most of you use and I didn't have time to deal with anything else.

The Userbar site will take a while to to get back up because I lost actual code there.
The main site ( http://removedfromgame.com/ ) didn't have anything there in the first place so I'm not going to mess with that for a while longer.

I have made the move to my new house but I'm going to be concentrating on job hunting more than anything and then I'll have to adjust to whatever new schedule that job has for me.
After ALL that is taken care of, I can get back to handling this little defacing issue.
_________________________________________________________

Also, let me clarify the situation. No files were lost (except the homepages to the affected sites) and no information was taken. It wasn't a real hack, just a script that managed to upload new "index.php" files to my server and the pages are 100% clean. So everyone, and everything they put up through my sites, is completely safe.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused by the horrible timing of this random script kiddie attack.

Just got the memo from Eeems on Google+.

Honestly, it's strange. The only thing they did is replace my index.php files and I'm not the only person they did that to.
There are hundreds of completely random sites that have been given the same treatment and I can't really figure out how they managed it. There's literally no correlation between the site that were defaced and no explanation. I thought they may have gotten my FTP or 1and1 password somehow, but it ONLY affected my websites that use the removedfromgame.com domain. The others were untouched.

I'm thinking the ONLY possibility is that my upload form isn't completely secure but without knowing exactly what they did, I can't really make it invulnerable. At least, not very soon.
Anyway, I'll see if I can get the image uploader back up quick before I go to bed and deal with this... later. I'm moving this weekend so this really couldn't have happened at a worse time.

Update: It's back up. Glad I had an extra copy of the homepage lying around and they didn't do any real damage. The other pages that use the removedfromgame.com domain are still down and some of them may remain that way permanently. I'll keep you updated when I actually have time to deal with it. =/

Yep! Which is absolutely ridiculous. I've already used a total of about 10k.
Though, I plan on switching sometime next year. (Don't worry, I'll bring the old sites and the domains over with me.)

Sadly, I'll still be very on and off. Job hunting and all. I might be moving several states over too.
I'll fill you guys in when I know more about what's going on.
