Art / Hay Bale Pixel Art
« on: April 12, 2010, 06:55:26 pm »
Introduction Thingie-
So, some of you know of the popular 'Farmville' game on Facebook. Well, it's created something of a form of art with their hay bales which take up exactly a 1x1 space on a grid that can get as big as 98x98. As such, several people have taken to arranging hay bales into art. Unfortunately, not only do you need to spend some time to level up and get enough money to upgrade the size of your farm to its highest but it costs quite a bit to get enough hay bales to complete your work.

Anyway, this is the whole reason I started Farmville in the first place. For now, I only have one design done (since I only just recently upgraded to the 90x90 farm) and thought I'd share my little hobby with you guys.

Available Hay Bales-

So... as you can see, you're really limited on colors which makes this art even harder.

Finished Designs-

FF1 Practice
(98x98)

Finished with it a a 90x90 farm so I couldn't fit in the bottom GUI thing. I would finish it, but I want to work on another design once I get to 98x98.
Though, I made that GUI pixel-by-pixel. I can't believe how perfectly it fit. =D

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Um...Doggie!
(98x98)

The checkered part is where the crops will be planted. (216 spots) The rest will have scattered animals/buildings/whatever. I'll just have to wait and see.
Anyway, these are Pokemon from the dropped project Pokemon BattleFire. They just looked so great together, I couldn't resist. Hope it comes out well.
(It was a pain in the ass trying to get it down to just using the colors available at 2am while suffering from insomnia and a headache. D= )

I play DDR weekly for exercise now.
Stepmania every now and then.
Farmville daily. (it's really easy to just jump on then off again)

Otherwise, I just recently grabbed MegaTen (Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE Online), and it's really cool, but I'm dying way too much trying to learn this system and all. Oh well, I've only played a few hours yesterday and I've been too busy today. I'll give the game some more time to grow on me.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm tempted to give it a try.

HoN is really big though. You can't get in without a beta key and the final version will cost you a pretty penny (about $30) to play.

Isn't LoL free-to-play? (too lazy to check the site. xP)

I played some HoN (Heroes of Newerth) which is another, more popular, upgraded version of DotA.
However, I suck WAY too much to keep playing. =/

Hm... which theme is this happening on? (or is it happening on all of them?)

@AP, in the future, I wonder if you could maybe check my CSS to make sure I did not do anything wrong that could cause potential issues in some browsers, and maybe my index.template.php files of the custom themes to get rid of the double-banner code (when CSS doesn't load fast, you see two Omnimaga banners at the top then one dissapears. It was because in 2008 I wanted to get rid of the default SMF infobox like you see on http://www.mtv-music-generator.com and tr1p1ea did it in a quite hackish way (I think by hiding one of the banner through CSS x.x). It' snot a big hurry, though. It might be good to test on one skin at once, too, in case.

You don't need to worry about the CSS. All browsers handle everything that CSS can do the same way. It's Javascript that can have compatibility issues.

As for the banner issue, I haven't seen that happen to me at all before. I can look at the index.template.php file though and see if I can see what may be causing it.

Mind if I just edit the first post myself when I want to add to the list? (It's your topic so I'm not going to abuse my powers without permission. ;P)

If anyone wants help with web design, let me know and try to have some sort of instant messenger.

I can help out with whatever you may need. (It's what I'm going to major in after all)

For the basics, I'll probably link you to others' tutorials but when you're needing help debugging, or with how to do something in particular, I'll try and work on it. =)

As for the list, I forgot that I lost my bookmarks when my hard drive crashed so I forgot most of the sites.
I'll try my best to find them again.

It would be nice to know what languages you're looking for, or at least what type of languages... such was web, object-oriented, so on.
Regardless, I can gather a list of site I've used in the past for various languages. Gimme a bit. I haven't slept much. ^^;

Here's the final version I'll be doing.
Let me know of any bugs since I haven't quite tested out this last one but I'm pretty sure that it still works just fine.
Readme included and all.

The source with comments is separate. It's just a txt file and it's not 'copy-pastable' to any TI-editor I know of. Just use the files in the zip of the release when editing and refer to the txt file for any questions on what the code does or what the variables used are for.
If you have any further questions about the code itself, contact me however you wish. If you have any questions about the AI, contact Zera.

Mine hasn't changed much. Mostly just added more games to the sidebar.

Back to coding with me. =P

That's pretty epic, Zera. So minimalistic and simple yet looks pretty functional and convenient too.
