But fear not, because not everything is lost: if you manage to make your usb port appear as a COM port (aka serial port), your adapter might be similar enough to a "5$ link" or "directlink" cable to work with TILP (an open-source ti calculator linking program - you can find it on ticalc.org). I will try making it appear as a COM port and I already got tilp! I thought i was gonna have to use it at some point.

My cable has arrived although my calculator has not (it was supposed to arrive today). I’m hoping it arrives tomorrow or the day after because after that I’ll be living in a new house.

Im getting a TI83 later today or tomorrow and I purchased a normal 2.5mm to USB cable instead of the Silverlink cable, can I still use it, even if I have to install third party software. All I need to use it for is transferring programs.
