News / nPlayer for Nspire CX
« on: January 21, 2012, 12:55:27 pm »
Here is a test release of nPlayer for the CX.  It is still an early version, but it does do what it is supposed to do:  play videos.  Its drawbacks are that there is no file compression (not too big of an issue with the CX memory  >:D) and it does not allow videos smaller than the Nspire screen.  Nevertheless, here is a video of it in action (sorry for the large size, link is below) and the file is attached!  This won't work on the non-CX models, it is for the CX only.  Both versions will be combined when I update this on ticalc, this is just a test version for those who have asked for it on the CX!  Also, I will upload the player to the Omnimaga archives!

After a long delay, I have finally finished and released Trapped for the TI-89 series of calculators!  It should be available on ticalc.org shortly!  Thank you to all who have supported me throughout the long development process!  It is very much appreciated!  Here are a few screenshots:

News / New Nspire Models: CX-C, CX-C CAS, and CM
« on: August 02, 2011, 04:41:39 pm »
While browsing TI's Chinese website earlier today, member northern_snow made in interesting discovery of three Chinese exclusive TI-Nspire models.

First, there are the CX-C and CX-C CAS models, which seem to be very similar to US models with the major exception of supporting the Chinese language and a dictionary, accessible with the key combo ctrl+8.

More interesting, however, is the discovery of the TI-Nspire CM-C model.  Besides the obvious differences in appearance (mini USB port on side, curved style, and white color), the CM model also has less memory, 32 MB of RAM as opposed to 64 MB on the normal CX models.

Read more about these new discoveries here!

News / Pegs for Nspire Released
« on: June 17, 2011, 05:14:21 pm »
For a second release this week, I have finally also finished up the Nspire Lua game Pegs!

You can download from the Omni archives or ticalc (when it is added)!

Enjoy!

(Also, I will be going away next week, probably without internet access, so I might disappear for a few days...)

Much like they did with the Nspire CX, Texas Instruments has taken the liberty of sending TI-BANK and critor a test of the TI-84 Pocket:

A short summary of the new calc is posted in the original thread:

Quote
TI sent me a brand new TI-84 Pocket.fr.

Check the photos, tests and informations on TI-Bank:
http://ti.bank.free.fr/index.php?mod=news&ac=commentaires&id=1176

To be short:
- as expected, it's similar with the basic TI-84+
- no miracle: only 48Kb RAM like all recent TI-84+

You might have been right with the 2.71MP OS.
The calculator includes a new 1.03 Boot Code. Remember that on TI-z80 Flash, the Boot Code only deals with the OS installation...
So probably some bad news very soon...

Quote
With the new 1.03 Boot Code on the new TI-84 Pocket.fr (and probably soon on the newest TI-84+/84+SE):
- you cannot downgrade to any TI OS below 2.55MP
- you cannot install third party OSes anymore
- you cannot even install a patched 2.55MP OS
- the OS validation screen alone needs 6-7 minutes in the best case (no, it's not frozen)

It seems as if the new Boot Code 1.03 is a disastrous addition to the calculator.  Much like with OS 2.1, the boot code blocks downgrading and third party Operating Systems on the TI-84.  With the exception of the MP Operating Systems (which technically could be considered an "update"), TI has done little against the 84 community, making most of their attacks against the Nspire.  This marks a new age, with a direct attack against TI-84 developers.  The loss of ability to install any OS makes it impossible for users to downgrade to the more stable OS 2.43 and to install custom OSes, such as KnightOS.

Although this boot code can only be confirmed to exist on the TI-84 Pocket, it is possible that it will find its way on newly produced TI-84s, bringing disastrous results to the 84 development community.

OS 2.71 MP is not April Fools any more!

More information, good and bad, will be added here when available.

News / nPlayer Released!
« on: June 13, 2011, 07:04:40 pm »
Though I actually "finished" the current version a while back, I have finally decided to release nPlayer! :)

nPlayer allows one to play videos on the TI-Nspire through Ndless and several computer programs.  Though a somewhat simple process, it does yield beautiful results!

Screen shots are available in the nPlayer topic and the ticalc file info page.

Enjoy! :)

Miscellaneous / College Major Help
« on: June 05, 2011, 08:46:56 pm »
Right now, I am in a position where I need to decide what my major will be in college.  I know I want to do something with computers, but I am undecided on what my exact major will be.  Because many people here are quite familiar with computers and such, I though I would ask a few questions here to see if I can get any help.

The college I want to attend offers three undergraduate programs related to computers, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, and Computer Engineering.  Unless my point of view changes greatly, I doubt I would move into Computer Engineering; nevertheless, I am left to decide between CS and CIS.

Between CS and CIS, which of the following is a better degree?  Which has better pay?  Which has the best job availability and security?  Likewise, my school offers a 5 year program for both CS and CIS in which one would receive the appropriate BS degree along with a MS in Software Engineering.  Is this a good program to get in to, or is it better to just get the BS and move on?  Many websites on the internet seem to be very torn between CS and CIS, with some saying some are wonderful and the other is terrible, and others being the exact opposite.  Thus, I am quite confused on the differences and advantages of both degrees.

I thank you greatly for any help! :)

TI-Nspire / Pegs for Nspire (Lua)
« on: May 14, 2011, 09:53:25 am »
A quick little project I started last night.  This is a port of the PuzzPack game "Pegs".  It is still quite incomplete, but it is also a pretty simple project, so it should be ready in no time! :)

News / A Second Set of Three!
« on: April 22, 2011, 11:35:32 pm »
In previous news we announced the development of three new Lua games for the Nspire:  15 Puzzle, Block Dude, and 9sweeper.

Now, we have yet another set of three new games!

First, ingalls has posted a demo of his game nFighter!

Here is a screenshot of it in action:

Secondly, noticing that there were no tunnel games for the Nspire, I whipped up a quick one in Lua (which can be downloaded here, ticalc, or TI-Bank):

Finally, TI-Bank member Spirikoi has released a two player Connect 4 game on TI-Bank

Screenshot:

We wish the above developers good luck in their projects! :)

Now, we will be in need of a third set of three games! :P

First we have Goplat's original 15 puzzle game, the first Nspire Lua game:

Secondly, apcalc has been working on porting Block Dude Nspire to Lua:

Finally, ExtendeD, author of Ndless, has been working on a Minesweeper clone, 9sweeper:

We hope to see more progress on these games, and new developments for the Nsprie in the near future! :D
