Minecraft Discussion / Re: MINECRAFT!
« on: December 06, 2010, 02:01:03 am »
Someone recently bought me minecraft, and I set up a server the other day where me and a few friends (including juju) have been playing.  Our current map can be found here.  Our house/main structure is in the bottom left above the forest fire.  It's the only large stone structure.  I built it up to the max height, and also there is a giant skybridge coming off of it.  If you look closely you can see some other interesting things, like a nature above ground lava pool north east, and in one of the desert areas really far away from spawn me and my friend built an igloo for shelter on night.

Netham45 is, was, and always will be my hero.

..to my surprise, I've never actually viewed the ticalc games section (or much of ticalc) since around 2006.  I thought it was still that way.  It's more of a shock to see it semi-organized.

Computer Usage and Setup Help / Re: Pentium II, Linux...hmmm...
« on: October 21, 2010, 06:37:00 am »
I would recommend arch or gentoo if you plan to actually use it regularly, or if you just want to play around you could try LFS.  That's always fun and helps you learn more about how stuff works.  By the way I'm pretty sure running an application in wine is no different than running it on actual windows- it doesn't use any extra power (however, if, for example, your linux graphics card driver is worse than the windows equivalent, it would perform worse- not wine's fault though).  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Computer Usage and Setup Help / Re: laptop hunting.
« on: October 01, 2010, 04:46:06 pm »
It isn't better by a longshot, the 240m has a higher clock speed (easily overclockable, but still), and similar everything else.  The 420m has more cuda cores, that seems to be about it.  I can run 4 1080p videos at the same time with 3286x1080 as my resolution; it seems very powerful to me.  I don't know what more you can really ask for out of a graphics card.

Also, I still say you should push for the i7 or at least an i5.  But that's just me.

You should consider spending the extra $150 and get a computer with an i7.  The laptop I bought in 2009 is now $950, and it has

-i7 1.6GHz/~3GHz with powerboost
-nvidia geforce gt 240m
-4gb ram
-500gb seagate hdd at 5400rpm (crap really :()

I know you said $800, but going the extra $150 may be worth it.

Anime and Manga / Re: Manga Fox
« on: September 26, 2010, 09:14:33 am »
It is "legit" in the sense that you can read manga on it fine, but it isn't exactly "legal".  A lot of sites that host manga are getting hit hard and getting shut down now (see: onemanga).  Personally, I don't like reading manga online; the resolution is low, you can't fullscreen, etc., buying it/downloading high res scans is generally better (of course, for people who cannot do that, reading online is the only option).

General Calculator Help / Re: connecting a Nspire to a Linux comp?
« on: September 24, 2010, 06:35:43 pm »
I don't have an nspire, might not be much help.  First off, I think tilp needs to be run as root, it's the only way I've ever gotten it to work.  As for the tilp download, have you checked your package manager?  Mine has tilp-svn, which I assume is the latest.  Not sure where the svn is located if not, maybe someone else can help.

Miscellaneous / Re: Facebook
« on: September 24, 2010, 04:28:21 am »
Facebook was not down due to /b/ (at least, extremely, extremely unlikely); it was already down, and then a bunch of people obviously new to /b/ broke out the preferred tool of choice to DDoS sites and were like "LOL WE DDOS FACEBOOK", when, in reality, they did nothing.  You would need to flood facebook with a collective 20000000mbps (or something around there) to DDoS it, because it has so many servers.

edit: oh also, you don't get DNS errors from being DDoSed (to my knowledge)

Other / Re: opera mini for iphone
« on: April 15, 2010, 08:46:12 pm »
Testing out Opera Mini on my iPod Touch G1 right now. I absolutely love it! I think it's much better than Safari. :D

It works a hell of a lot better than safari on my 1G too.  Like, it actually loads the pages instead of piece at a time, and doesn't lag at all.  The only real bad thing is that there is only one distance you can zoom, and that isn't that bad, either. I highly recommend it over safari.

I look forward to conversing with those who don't frequent the irc  :)

Woah, that's pretty neat.  It's even up to date o_o.  Also, reguarding space, if people think the stuff on the top takes up too much space, couldn't they press the minus button on the top left of what they don't want to see?  It even seems to save the setting, which is nice.

This thread.  Saw it, decided to look at it, then joined the irc.  As you can see, I don't post much on the forums.  Also no, I wasn't planning on entering said contest or anything.
