Miscellaneous / Re: AP Tests

I believe the exam fee is revealed sometime near the beginning of the school year. They don't change much, though. Over the past 5+ years the price per test increased by $3.

That seems like a pretty weird situation to me...we know how much we have to pay when we sign up for the course. In my area, it's mostly the parents that pay anyways  :P

Edit: I also believe that our school pays for those who can't afford the exam fee. Also, I'm now wondering if your post was a joke :P

Hmm well in our school if you sign up for an AP class, you must take the AP.

I took fourteen AP exams over the first three years of high school, and none this year. Why? Because college doesn't take it.

Which means I wasted over $1,200 on AP exams already :P

So yeah, to those of you in your first years of high school—see if the colleges you plan to attend actually accept AP scores, and in which subjects. It varies a lot by school.
Spoiler For My scores:
All fives—maybe that was worth it ???
At least in my school, there are many reasons other than college credit to take APs.
1. They are weighted by a factor of 1.06 in the GPA, so if you want to be ranked well, you have to take lots of APs.
2. Our AP classes tend to have better teachers than other normal classes.
3. If you want to be with smart classmates, APs are where you find them.

Is there a version of wumpus.tns that is compatible with OS 3.1? I am using OS 3.1.0.392 and I get an error telling me to update to the latest version of the OS. I want to use OS 3.1 because I want to use Ndless and program in C. (There isn't a version of Ndless for OS 3.2 yet, is there?)

So if you wanted to fire an arrow into room 6, you return -6?

The English version doesn't provide all of the information that the French version does, though.

TI-Nspire / TI-Planet Contest: The Treasure of Knossos

(This should probably be in news)
TI-Planet is having a big programming contest, and this time it's to make an AI for the game Wumpus. The full description is http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=144685#p144685 but basically, you have to kill the monster with your arrow and get the treasure and then leave. The Lua script will only tell you information about your immediate surroundings though, so it's tricky  :P

I got that from Google Translate/English part of post, so could someone explain these things to me:
1. Is there a limit to n (number of rooms)? Because the window just looks ridiculous once n>16 or so.
2. Could someone please translate these two lines? They didn't do well with Google Translate:
"La seule chose interdite sous peine de disqualification est d'utiliser/modifier les autres fonctions ou variables préfournies par le script."
"soit l'opposé du numéro d'une salle voisine dans laquelle tirer une flèche pour y tuer le Wumpus"
3. What type of calculator will this be run on? Can I assume that it has Ndless r825 and that it's an Nspire CX or Nspire CX CAS (NOT a black/white calc)?

I don't have enough. You can never have enough calcs. :P
Haha, very valid point  :D

I suggest that next contest, the prize be changed a bit. Maybe the grand prize could be 1 calc + cash? Or just cash? Or maybe modding/hacking materials, like an RS232 interface thing >:D The thing is, I have a feeling that a decent amount of the contestants already have enough calculators.

The HP Prime's price does not look bad. If I remember correctly, it has some form of CAS software as well as very nice hardware, and it is priced lower than the Nspire CX CAS and TI-89 Titanium.

There are many advantages C++ has over C, but what makes me especially happy is that dealing with strings is no longer a PITA  ;D

Congrats Bisam! Can someone explain his program more? From Google Translate I got that it used the Sieve of Eratosthenes, but I don't quite understand the specifics, especially why it has sudden jumps in times.

And lol that native z80 entries can beat Nspire Basic, maybe you should have had an Ndless ASM/C category?

I was using an emulator but apparently its speed is inaccurate.

Maybe I should get a real Nspire CX to test my programs...oh wait that's why I entered this contest :)
