It would probably depend of what hardware it has and if it's possible to flash or jailbreak or whatever so it can run 3rd party code. Or if it has a programming language on it directly it would be nice.
The device kinda reminds me a bit of those kids computers in toy stores back in the days, although not for kids. I never saw it before, though.

Could you? Yes, possibly. It depends on how open the platform is. If there is any publicly available software development kit it would make things easier(though that doesn't seem too likely for this type of machine). It also depends on if anyone has previously tried to do any sort of hacking on this machine to open it up to programming (again, I don't think that seems too likely as I can't imagine it being a popular target for hobbyists). If not, you could try taking on hacking it yourself...  . Any idea of the specs or what type of processor it's using? Does it have usb or a memory card slot of some sort?
Well it appears someone has had some interest in hacking and adding in a new operating system for the device. He has all the information about his hack and the technical specs of the original machine on his website http://www.fybertech.net/mailstation/ As for the unit itself. It appears to only have a 25 pin printer port, a phone port, and a dial up port (both phone lines) and a power adaptor, though it also runs on batteries.

Hi there,
Long time no show on this site for me, ahhh the college life is so busy >.< I recently went into a store that sells used stuff and picked up an Earthlink Mailstation 150, for about $9. If you've never seen the device, it looks kind of like a laptop, but with a monochrome screen (picture included). I bought it mainly just for amusement, but I'm curious if I could potentially make games on the device considering it has a full keyboard and some internal memory. I can't imagine it would be very powerful, but it would give me something to do on the device rather then just have it collect dust and read the emails left on it from the previous buyer.
*Please note: I am not technologically literate in the slightest. Hopefully when I take my video game design classes during my Bachelor's level schooling will I learn a thing or two.

I'M still around but not as much as I used to be prior your joining.
As for old game consoles development, I heard Sega Dreamcast games were still developped, but remember that it might be harder to get sales since finding the consoles is now harder. Also, after seeing that SNES games site, be careful to not work on games or hacks that are based on copyrighted materials. I'm not so sure for example that the French Secret of Mana cartridges are very legal, unlike the standalone IPS patches you find on emulation sites.
Hey, always a pleasure DJ_O, glad you are around period and keeping all this going Well I figure they must be doing well in development, they always seem to sell out of those Dreamcast games. Even the hella more expensive Neo Geo AES/MVS carts. get sold out too. And yeah, I've never been a fan of hacks of older games, I like to make stuff from scratch, like the did with Pier Solar for the Genesis. Oh, just wanting to throw this out there, I'm learning LSDJ and hope to release some music early next year

I am however, heading off to college next year to major in programming. As I want to start a career in making new games for older game consoles.
Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding, but how would you make a career of creating new games for older consoles? I don't know of any companies doing that (unless you mean for example; making PS2 games right now even though the PS3 is the current generation system). They only people actively making games for dead systems are hobbyists and hackers, and they don't make any money from that.

Well it's been forever since I've been on this site, and I'm assuming a lot has happened since then. I was talking with a friend today and brought up this site in conversation, which reminded to log on. Made a small donation, and now I feel totally lost lol. Anyways, I didn't want anyone to think I totally abandoned this site, but I still know nothing of programming unfortunately. I am however, heading off to college next year to major in programming. As I want to start a career in making new games for older game consoles. I figured that with the knowledge I gain there, I will make some of my first games on the calculator, and try to build upon that. So hopefully in a few years I can show off those games lol...

I was trying to find a section or some tutorial to programming, as I don't even know the smallest amount of programming. I was thinking that if there isn't one, it'd be a good idea to make one, so that new comers can start learning right away and don't feel out of place..like myself. Any help would be be appreciated. Also on that note, would there be any good books to look into to learn programming, that fairly easy? Thanks for all of your support

Well I guess seeing as Gameboy Color games seem to run great on the TI Nspire, I would more then likely also want to play Neo Geo Pocket games on that as well.
The Neo Geo has 1 less button then the GBC, I don't know if that is of any help.

If so, then I have some good news for you Something I've just found out but am happy to announce is that the Dreamcast is not a dead system. Every year since the supposed demise of the system has seen a new game release by either Sega themselves (only up until 2007) or an independent company. Let me start by saying that some of these newer games coming out are top notch and fun as hell. As you can see in this article: http://www.segabits.com/?p=73802011 marks the release of two (not yet released titles) Sturmwind ( ) and Gunlord ( http://www.gun-lord.com) Definitely looking forward to getting both So yeah, does anyone still own or play a Dreamcast?

It has a total of 85 games if the information I have read is correct. Some of them are incredible games to be enjoyed, it definitely was one of, if not, my favorite handheld console.

The Neo Geo Pocket Color is a 16 bit handheld that came out during the time of the gameboy to compete with it in the hand held market. I figure the NGPC is a bit more powerful then the Gameboy Color, so I'm sure it should be easily handled on the TI series of calculators.
