Windows 8 all the way. I really like the interface and I'm not even running it on touch. It's not that resource intensive either.
I dislike Linux for a few reasons and try to steer clear of it, the main reason being drivers. If I had to use it though (and I do occasionally) then it would be Arch or Mint and XFCE4. Cinnamon's nice but I get too bored of it.

I might check it out. My concern about third-party alternatives and custom themes is that they sometimes hide malicious stuff so after a year of use my Windows install files get corrupted for no visible reason. Also, some might be too CPU-intensive.
Another option would be to use a Rainmeter widget with the same res as your desktop and set it to be on the desktop and be invisible to clicks. If you have a .gif in mind I could make a script for you.

The waves on this wallpaper makes me wish I could have an animated wallpaper on my Windows 7 machine. Back in the Windows XP days, it was still possible to have animated wallpapers.
You can try Dreamscene, but I didnt have much luck when i used it.

Basically M$ bought Mojang https://mojang.com . what do you think this means for the modding community and the future of the game on non-XBox consoles?
I think that little to nothing will change. Possibly accounts will be integrated into Microsoft ID's and there will be better integration into other Microsoft platforms. I doubt that anything major will change. Microsoft isn't the big bad evil company people seem to think it is.
This. Everyone I talk to says it's horrible, but I don't see them tossing their xbaxes or installing Linux. I think people should realize that the team behind Minecraft has changed over the years too and it's not just going from the original creators to people entirely different. Nonetheless, Alpha to 1.8 will still be here to play regardless of how MS change it.

Why do you need a battery percentage app o.o
To check his battery percentage of course.
Look at what is left of the clock all on the top of the screen.
I was being sarcasm.

You should add NEI Plugins as well (Different from NEI Addons) because it adds advanced integration for Thaumcraft and Forestry. I must also add that IC2 would be a good idea because Forestry does not require it, but uses it if its in (that or Mekanism, but IC2 works better with Forestry). Also, make sure every mod there is server-side (Shatter is not) because it can cause the crashies. I know most mods are universal, but there are still some exceptions. If you have any problems I could help. Making a Technic Pack wouldn't be a bad idea either.

These are just some really bad attempts, but you can edit them or whatever.

"Playing" Civ V is a great place to start, but it's more like breathing and eating it for me. I did just get the last DLC from the Humble Bundle though, so I'll have to try out III and IV as well sometime.
