Other / Dat 8-bit computer thread« on: August 07, 2013, 04:32:44 am »
So, I've been toying with the idea of getting an old 8-bit computer to play around with. I'd be using it for gaming and maybe programming. Here are the ones I'm considering:
-Commodore 64 -ZX Spectrum -BBC Micro -MSX The z80 ones would be cool since I'm kind of familiar with the platform already. Commodores still have a huge user base even today and a lot of software titles. The MSX was more popular in Japan, and it might be a bit difficult to find support. The ZX Spectrum and BBC Micro were more popular in Europe/ the UK, but have a good amount of titles. If you have oppinions, experience, or any insight to share it'd be appreciated, or even a suggestion of a different platform. 35
News / TI-84 + CSE available in stores!« on: June 25, 2013, 05:58:52 pm »
With the new school year starting up in a few months, it seems that the TI-84 + CSE is starting to make its way into retail stores. As you can see from the picture below, I came across it in my local Best Buy retailing at an expected $149.99 (similar to what it has been selling for at online retailers).
This, however was not the only point of interest from my trip. I also came across an HP 50g (retailing for $136.99) which captured my interest. These machines are seldom seen in stores, and have not been for a while. While this is only speculation, it is possible that there is renewed interest in HP calculators as an alternative to TI and Casio in the states. This could mean good things for the upcoming HP Prime and the HP 39 gII which has yet to see a release stateside. 37

General Calculator Help / TI-73 Installing Mallard« on: June 03, 2013, 03:18:13 pm »
So I was wondering if anyone had experience with this? TI-connect complains about mallard being an invalid file. TILP doesn't want to send it as a backup as the readme says and doesn't seem to send it at all other wise. I have OS 1.60 installed on my ti-73 as required. This is the first time I've really tried TILP. Any advice?

Anime and Manga / Swimming Anime« on: April 02, 2013, 08:03:52 am »
So, I know we actually have some swimmers here, and I was wondering if any of you had come across this?
This is a trailer from Kyoto Animation that was produced this March to show off the anime studio's quality. Previously, this group has produced K-on, Lucky Star, and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya among others. I think this could be a really cool direction to go with an anime, and apparently a lot of other people do too. Crunchy Roll is even supporting an online petition to make this into a real anime. So, what do you guys think? 44
Other Calculators / Error in validation« on: March 08, 2013, 08:34:57 am »
Is there any reason a calculator would give this message when receiving an OS from another calculator, but not when using TI's OS downloader that's built into TI Connect? *Edit* The calculator displaying the error message is a TI-84 Plus for the record. I can give further details about exactly what process I went through and what year the TI-84 Plus is, but more than anything I am just curious.
