I really like the newest mockkup, I think it's my favorite so far.

@DJ: Metroid II actually has a hack that colorized it. :D

Sounds awesome! 4 channel, thats Nintendo quality right?
Not quite, The NES has 5 channels, The Commodore 64 is 3 channels. I *think* the Gameboy is 4 channels. Anyho, this is coming along quite nicely Iambian. ^^

It reminds me of a phone too, a very ugly phone. :/

I don't think that a playable metroid game can be made in basic on a cse. The metroid games are not very responsive on the regular monochrome calcs and the cse has a slower screen. The mockup can be replicated using basic, but it will be slow I think. especially with vertical scrolling.

Edit: I changed the colors to the c64 palette and did this little photoshop thing to showcase it on a monitor.

That looks awesome Keoni! :D

But I wanted pokemans and yoshi's island :(

:D, I have yoshi's island. I love that game!
My friend just recently gave me Bioshock. Played it and beat it. Really doesn't tie with the second one very well. >:/

Just avoid Pokemon Silver and Gold unless you have soldering skills and feel like replacing the save battery every 5 years or so. In NES games batteries can last decades, but these two Pokemon games use a real-time clock that causes the battery to wear out 10 times faster.

Figured this out recently. I have 2 Silvers and 1 Gold, but none of them save. D: Instead of saving then I just see how far I can get without saving, lol.

Really? :O Both my Gold and Silver (and even Pokemon Red)games still save fine. My Krystal died, but i blame the fact that it went through the washing machine. The game still works, but the save function is toast.

I'm not really surprised that this thing has poor performance. Not only that, but IIRC it's unusable in standardized testing in the US due to the touch screen. To top things off it's really ugly too (in my opinion). Ah well. :/

Thanks. I was going for the original metroid look, but I might do some mockups exploring different styles such as metroid 2.
Yep, that's what it reminded me of. :) The C64 style graphics aren't bad either.

A litlle screenshot to show the backface culing thing. Note that a lot of lines can be remove, I currently work on this.  :P
Vertex isn't process if face is remove.

It's currently run at +-31 fps, but I hope gain more speed.

That looks fantastic! :) Very nice work there!

For such a limited system, you guys have made some incredible things. Many of these tunes have a Sega Genesis or Amiga sound(feel?) to me (of course dialed down to their most basic elements). I can hear what they'd sound like in better quality with more channels in my head. Really awesome stuff. ^^ Like Keoni, I'm curious if you or any of your friends work with other old formats. :) I myself generally gravitate towards NES or Gameboy chiptune stuff. Some of the newer platforms are good too, (SNES and Genesis sometimes too)but IMO you really can't beat the sound the NES and Old Gameboys generate. They really have a lot of personality. :D

@All: Actually, I think that game would port really well to the non color models in grayscale. The small graphics look perfect for it! :)
