Actually, if I remember correctly, I *think* there might be some pre-existing LZ77 routines for the TIcalcs. You may want to do some poking around.

The detail level is quite incredible, but it still looks a bit off. Impressive nonetheless. The movie that I remember really doing it for me was Final Fantasy the spirits within. You guys should check out some clips from that. It still holds up really well. Ofc, that is a non-interactive movie, but still. *Edit*

It's okay. Ascii art can actually be quite interesting. The great thing about it (in my opinion) is that both the simple and the more complex works can look very nice.

Early concept for our spaceship exploration game. Yep it's inspired by metroid and solar jetman. Not sure if this is the definitive art style though.
Not sure how I feel about the first pic, but I absolutely love the second one.

So in short, yes. We have heard of ASCII. In fact many ti basic games utilize ASCII graphics because they are very fast to display.

The red text is done by doing "/me" and will display the *username in red followed by your message. If you do a full reply instead of a quick reply you can choose different text colors under the font setting.

Well, I'm going to say go ahead an make one for the TI-89. That platform hasn't seen near enough love recently. There are also quite a few shooters out for the TI-83/84 already. In addition, as you yourself mentioned, having a larger screen to work with is nice. ^^
