Hey, this looks great! First grendel let me say welcome to omnimaga, and I hope you enjoy the boards! I would ramble about how amazing this project of yours looks, but it seems others have beat me to the punch! :Ptongue.gif I have to say I'm glad to see you are finding some help on this project and I can't wait to see it completed. I would love to help, but alas I am still in the process of learning ASM :(sad.gif. Anyho... good look to you!
*Edit* I do hope you stay around because you appear extremley well organized and seem to have an incredible feel for game design and concpet.

This is awesome to see some old members come back. Do you have your old games on ticalc? I could check them out.

Yes, but upon looking them up I have found that many of them are in the wrong area of the archive and most of them have files missing or added, so it wouldnt be of much use to give you links. I still have them on a Cd somwhere.... so mabey some day when i want to embarass myself ill upload some of them lol :Ptongue.gif .

Now that haloween is over I have more time for coding and working on projects again. Here are some sprites I've been working on for this game. The player ship is the one on the far left. Any feedback is appreciated :)smile.gif

I have never formally introduced here, so I thought I would take the time to do it here . I am rather new to these boards but I have been with the TI- Community for some time. I started programming in TI-BASIC in 98 or 99 when I got my first calculator; a TI 83 for highschool. This was back in the days where Bill Nagels ASM programs were fresh as were those of Jimmy Mardell, Void productions, Sicode, and many others. These games inspired me and I made several games and minor programs of my own. My most advanced one before I left the community for a while was a fully graphical(graph screen) Black Jack game with suits that simulated an actual deck and saved wins, losses and money. I left for a while in 2001 and watched the community progress sporadically. Eventually a year or so ago I managed to stumble onto Revsoft, and Spencer's massive Zelda project. This sparked my intrest again and I began to keep up with the community more again. I was eventually led here from finding some of DJOmnimagas RPG's in the Ticalc archives and also links from Revsoft and Maxcoders; and well here I am! This site is the most active I have found, and it has a very friendly and open envirnment and I am glad to be a part of the team here. I own a TI-83+, a TI 83+ SE, a TI-86, and a TI-89  I currently know html, TI-BASIC, and I am TRYING(Sigh <_<dry.gif ) to learn ASM.

The first RPG I have ever worked on. This project is being made in BASIC + XLIB and will be fully graphical. This project will be quite a learning experience as I have never done anything this large scale so I imagine it will take some time as I learn as I go :)smile.gif. I will try to post a couple of screen shoots soon of small things I am working on ATM.

This is the first game I'm going to be working on. It's a graphical(as in non-ascii)Gradius style game made in TI-BASIC + XLIB. I expect it to run very fast and have some minor game engine stuff up and runing, but it looks quite promising ATM. I have no XLIB experience as of yet so I'm sure I will have some questions. :)smile.gif  If XLIB does not entierly suit my needs I may try to include some other minor ASM to supplument it as need be.

TI-BASIC / NPC dialogue?
« on: October 28, 2007, 01:53:00 pm »
Couldnt you just check the character's current positon on the map to tell where he is at without using ifs? Or  am I misunderstanding you? Also, some source code for me to look at would be nice  ;)wink.gif .

TI-BASIC / NPC dialogue?

If your NPC interaction is only gonna be talking, nothing else, no special events like a boss fight, then i suggest storing your text like Halifax

No, it will be more interactive as you were saying. That's more along the lines of how I'll implement it.

i wonder how Ranman organizes dialogue in UV since he said that there can be long conversations.

Yea, I'd really like to know. That would be really useful :Ptongue.gif

It's crazy isn't it?

Ultima V cost $60 in 1988. It was the most expensive game on the market. If you account for inflation, it would cost about $100 today.

Holy economics Batman! Geez, all the intersting stuff in this Ultima game makes me want to look up and play throught the rest of the series. I remember there was alot of hype about the (later) Ultima games when I was in high school, but I never played any of them. Mabey i'll try to see if I can find some of these somewhere.

it would work well for a RPG tho, actually making a RPG in VB is easy but I don't know how to create save data and handle them yet

Yea it'd be fine as long as it's not an Action RPG like Zelda or something. :)smile.gif

x.x that'd be awkward... a game w/o multiple keypresses. even ddr and guitar hero have multiple key presses.

yea, that would be like Uber old school. The gameplay would be reaaalllyyy Clunky too  :Ptongue.gif .
