Music Showcase / Re: new NES music

Hmm... The first track is very C64 like. It actually seems kind of familiar for some reason... I could definitely see it fitting into an old video game or one that's retro styled. It's a decent sounding composition, and I like it ok. It is abit too commodore sounding for my tastes though.
The second one is very cheery and upbeat. Also reminds me of C64 stuff, but I like this one a lot more. It's quite catchy. ;D Kind of sounds like something that would be in an anime for some reason (if it were less chiptuney). :D

Also, dem arps. :P They're actually used pretty well in both compositions. I've heard many songs where they were overbearing and obnoxious. It's unfortunate, because they detracted from what otherwise could have been decent songs. That's not the case with either of your compositions though, so well done! :D

I wonder if Al Gore envisioned this when he invented the internet all those years ago...

Miscellaneous / In search of a new email provider
« on: June 07, 2014, 08:32:59 am »
So, microsoft decided to be dicks and not let me into my email account that I've had for years unless I provide them with a phone number or an alternate email address. The pretense they give is that it will help security and prevent me from being locked out of my account, but that is exactly what they are doing to me themselves. Anyhow, I'd like suggestions for an alternate email provider. I'm not exactly keen on the idea of GMAIL either, but that may be what I end up going with. So, any suggestions? What do you guys like or use?

Pretty cool for such a simple little machine. I was looking at a few different models of those a while back. :)

I'm interested as well. You should already have my email, but if not poke me.

It's also worth mentioning that this works on the normal TI-83+ as well. The grayscale isn't quite as great, but it does still look quite nice. :D

Just make sure that you can still draw other 8x8 sprites fine even if the routine can draw 8x9 sprites. You definitively don't want to have to make your entire sprite data 8x9 just to have one set of 8x9 chars. In the color tilesheets I remade the sprite 8x8 for that reason (and it was even worse, as each 8x9 Reuben char took two 8x8 sprite slots >.<). However, since I used colors, it didn't nearly look all that weird in 8x8 compared to 4 levels grayscale (although this pretty much revived the original sprite >.<).

Here's my attempt at an 8x8 coloured version of the Reuben sprite. I tried to retain some of the detail from the newer sprite.

I read somewhere in the topic that you used to have an 8*9 Reuben sprite for the map. I can hack Axe's sprite routine in two seconds if you want so that you can use it because it looked better IMO. ;)

I actually had forgotten that we ended up shrinking Reuben. :P The 8x9 one is slightly nicer, but I'm quite happy with how the 8x8 one came out. If it can be changed easily cool, but if not, the current one works quite well I think. :)

Apparently there's a GB accessory/mod called the Arduinoboy that enables MIDI on the GB. There also seem to be an LSDJ one.
Also :

OIC. That could explain it. :) Gotta check out those other vids. His stuff is pretty nice. :D

You mean the 8 core processors? I don't think I'd ever utilize 8 cores, and 6 was better for the price and clock speed 3.5 GHz(it oc's to up to 4.1GHZ). I also did have a budget, which I still managed to creep over slightly.
