Thats what i did with Portal :) The timed boss levels were meant to be stressful (simple tasks become much harder under the pressure of time ;) ) and so I implemented the timer before i realized it wasn't compatable with 83's.

Indeed, that is something that even modern day math programs can't do completely ^^,

We just played in my Economics class and the Free Parking lottery added a very nice touch :)  Having these options is got to make it so much more replayable, and the addition of AI is what every game hopes for!

Art / Re: Best sprite size on the TI-83 series (tilemap)

Yeah, he released a 'TI BBc Basic editor' in the package of BBC Basic when you download.  It is unfortunate that the editing scheme is so unfriendly though, as it tuns many people away.  I've worked with it some and it really is quite powerfull.  (although i haven't done any sprite graphics yet D:)

So now why in the world would that feature be included if it hurts the calculator ??? Another one of TI's blunders?  Actualy has a good reason?  Or actually unintentional?  I never actually got to find out :)

Well 89 basic has built in sprite manipulation (pictures), user defined variables, and more functions in general :P I think its still the same-ish speed though.  I've seen some pretty impressive 89 basic games on the archives, but nothing compared to what they can do in asm.

As far as i can tell in my school, they are definetaly still being sought out!  As the resident game-maker for the school i get all the requests for tetris/mario/phoenix and for some of my games as well.  My friend loves my BBC Basic tetris port and claims he likes it better than zTetris, and many of the people in math have phoenix and mario.  The thing that keeps calculators alive is that they can be played discretely in class (whether you like it or not, it does happen :P) as opposed to gameboys/psps and such.  There was a slight downflux in activity over the summer, but that is to be expected. :)

(And i can vouch for the Sword of Truth series being addictive :D Currently on book 6!)

Right, although you can make functions, which you can pass arguments to.  This might be the same with programs too, but i don't remember

I do believe it supports full recursion though, which has got to be a plus.  But i din't think you have global variables either D: But i've just kinda ranting now as i don't actually own one, I'm just trying to remember what he told me :)

I know it is really good for math tho, my friend bwang wrote an entire symbolic manipulation engine that would do things like integrate and derive and expand indefinitely.  It was pretty cool, and all writen in basic.  Its to bad nSpire doesn't support any kind of loops :(

Wow! Those cut scenes are awesome!!  I was surprised to see names from a series I'm reading called Sword of Truth.  I guess it was the inspiration?  Either way, looks very cool :)

News / Re: Fewer people, but more programs?
« on: December 01, 2009, 07:21:18 pm »
Since most of the prize of the contest is in fact the glory and fun of competing, the people who cheat and submit pre-made programs will only be cheating themselves, and will wallow in pitty and agony for the rest of the... week. ;)

One way to fix it would be to have the category very very specific and also very original ;D
