Mmmm yes that makes sense now.  I was never able to get my 84SE dumped, so I had to borrow my friends 83+ because for some reason 84s are just a pain :P  but I guess his ROM was very old because I can never send programs with those new characters to wabbitemu.

And the appvar thing would be cool! :)

O.O, what about hacked characters?  Didn't those also cause a problem with wabbitemu?  I might have avoided a crisis by switching out Serenity, which uses special characters by the dozen.

Thats good, and I won't be using checktmr( or anything, so it should keep up good compatibility.  lol, that would be crazy it the screenshots were in 83 speed O.O

SE speed, which it is being developed for.  Although it should be playable on the 83 as well, just slower.

Hmmm, this is very interesting.  I've never been much of an Rpg person myself (I like puzzles :D) but the concept of a program that can help you write games has always intrigued me.

Does it have any type of support for specially coded objects?  Like if you wanted to hand code the way an enemy moved, would that we possible with this engine?

Well, I don't know about raised terrain, but it does have full support for different height-ed tiles!  Raised terrain would force the tilemapper to go sprite by sprite, since all the sprites in a row would not necessarily be on the same level anymore.  This would mean instead of 2 tilemappers per row, it would be 24 sprites to display with the slowdown of BASIC now handling the loops and such.  That would translate from 40 Tilemaps to 480 sprite displays.  It would be unimaginaly slow :(. It is possible, though, that there is a way to do this that I haven't thought of.  I really don't code with libs that often.  But I will be releasing the source, so feel free to add that functionality if you want! :)

Serenity / Demo release date
« on: September 04, 2009, 10:03:33 pm »
As my first order of business with this new shiny sub-forum, I will create a topic concerning the demo of Serenity, its release date, and features that will be supported.  I am already working on redesigning the rooms and coding the cut scene text-technology, so hopefully I won't have to push back the deadline.  I will work hard not to!  The demo will be able to save progress, and files will be transferable to the finished version unless there are any significant changes to Sector 1 between the finished version and the Demo.

Release date:
September 31st 2009
Gameplay:
1st Sector, including the first Boss
Features:
The first Item
Boxes
Switches/trapdoors
Keys/doors
Opening cut scene/dialogue

O.O I don't think my engine is advanced enough to simulate raised terrain without a serious rewrite, and some serious slowdowns.  I think the only raised terrain that will be supported is the different height of blocks.  But once i release the source (one i clean it up a bit) you can feel free to add the feature yourself :)
