Thanks for your reply Art_of_camelot. Well, I'll look on eBay then. We are also asking in school, maybe someone wants to sell his calculator but I don't think we get a cheap (otherwise) broken calculator from any student. Maybe at least a cheaper replacement.

Yeah, that is unethical if you plan on using this to cheat on tests. But DelphiMarkus, I think it would be good if you bought a CX, transformed it into a CX CAS then swapped the cases if possible, to have a fresh new "CX CAS" in a CX CAS case :)
Oh, that would be a nice idea in terms of cost but will everything work? My brother needs these exam-mode as his teachers are using it in exams. And the CX has a LED (which my TI Nspire CAS with Clickpad does not have  ;D However my teacher did not even know about this mode, I think) which the teachers want to be on in exams. However switching the case is a cool idea.  8)
But I don't like such illegal things, too... Well I don't know... But thanks for the tips Rhombicuboctahedron and Hayleia!

My brother will need his calculator next class, thus there is some time to think about your suggestions and to look at eBay for a LCD replacement. In the meantime he can use my calculator. He isn't writing any exams before the summer holidays.

Hi!

My brother has a TI Nspire CX CAS for school, but as someone pushed him when he was walking down the stairs, thus the TI fell at least one floor down. Now the LCD is broken and the calculator does not show anything on screen and doesn't even load the battery any more. (It seams at least like that.)
I thought it might be possible to replace the LCD and got the TI finally open and got the LCD out. As I read it is not possible to replace the LCD with one from an non-CAS CX (http://ourl.ca/17041). That's really mean as I cannot buy a cheaper used CX non-CAS and use its LCD but have to buy a more expensive CX CAS.
There was also a small transistor (named Q04G on the board) behind the LCD which was broken, too. The solder was broken at two pins and the other pin was still hanging at its conductor. I managed to solder the two pins back on the conductor.

BTW, is it correct that the TI does not load its battery pack any more if the LCD is broken or removed? I fear it is not... but I don't know... it's TI...

So, I've got some questions:
  • It is possible to get a CX CAS LCD separately? I couldn't find anything on the internet since now, but you might have an idea.
  • If I cannot get a single display, do you know where to get a CX CAS which isn't that expensive than a new one? It would be enough if the TI is broken due some "experimenting" as long as the display is working.

Or do you have other ideas how to fix the calculator? My brother don't want to buy a new one. However, as you don't know what to do either, I can't see any other chance than that.
