Ah ok. I am almost ready to release a very early alpha. So basically all this has installed is some of the basic gnome software and a few other things. The current package list is as follows ( Not including all the dependencies of course ) # Core Packages aufs2 aufs2-util bash binutils bzip2 coreutils cpio cronie cryptsetup dash dbus device-mapper dhcpcd dnsutils diffutils e2fsprogs file findutils fuse gawk gcc-libs gettext glibc grep grub gzip hal heirloom-mailx initscripts iputils jfsutils kernel26 less libpipeline licenses logrotate lvm2 man-db man-pages mdadm mcrypt nano net-tools pacman pciutils pcmciautils perl ppp procps psmisc reiserfsprogs sed shadow sudo sysfsutils syslog-ng sysvinit syslinux tar tcp_wrappers texinfo udev usbutils util-linux wget which wpa_supplicant xfsprogs # Alsa alsa-utils alsa-oss # Xorg xorg xorg-server xorg-xinit xterm xorg-utils xorg-server-utils # Gnome gnome gnome-utils gnome-settings-daemon-updates gnome-system-monitor gnome-nettool gdm gedit # Network Tools networkmanager network-manager-applet # Software Managment gnome-packagekit
My own custom chatzilla mod is installed as well ( runnable by chatzilla from the command line ( or alt-f2 ) ). Users: root omni both have the same password: omnimaga I believe that I successfully set fallback as the default, but it might still default to gnome-shell. I also tried to get the icons to display by default, but I'm still having issues with that I'll upload the iso as soon as I make sure it's still stable. Be warned that this is still early alpha, and it is just a live cd iso atm, it would be best to either dd it onto a usb drive, or boot onto a virtual machine with it instead of putting it on a cd to make a live cd.

i heard gnome 3 was pretty buggy. Why not use Gnome 2 and add an update with the official release of gnome 3 bug free(It is beta isn't it)
Well gnome 2 is no longer in the Arch Repositories, I'd have to do some pretty intense scripting to make the install of it into my build directory automated, and it would make it take a lot longer gnome 3 isn't so bad (I've been running it the whole time I've been making this) so I'm pretty sure it wont die on everybody.

my current list of packages:
aufs2 aufs2-util bash coreutils cpio dhcpcd dnsutils file fuse kernel26 syslinux nano alsa-utils alsa-oss xorg xorg-server xorg-xinit xterm xorg-utils xorg-server-utils gnome gnome-utils gdm dbus hal networkmanager network-manager-applet gedit gnome-system-monitor gnome-nettool sudo mcrypt I also have a modified version of chatzilla installed (so it will work with xulrunner2.0 which is installed with gnome) for irc. I'm almost ready to release a very early iso of it but that might have to wait for the weekend. Right now the default password for root and omni (The default user) is omnimaga, and I haven't made an installation system for this yet, but meh, I'll figure that out eventually.
Where's gcc and bison?
gcc is part of base, which is also installed. Arch linux has gcc on it by default and bison can be installed later if you really want it.

After nine years in development, hopefully it will have been worth the weight.
It's worth it in my opinion, and you can always uninstall what you don't need after you get it all set up.

As of today DJ_O has decided to change his moderator role and will now only be posting news and making minor site updates. He will no longer take part in moderating decisions. His decision to remove himself from moderating responsibilities has been due to an increased feeling of uselessness when it comes to what actions he has taken and from criticism by other members becoming too much. His health is also suffering so give him the best of wishes and lets do our best to fill the shoes that he has left in terms of moderating.

Colored names aren't worth the weight.
That's done server side, not OmnomIRC side if I remember correctly

I'm running 10 and I'm updating the next time I boot up into it (which is probably sometime today).

Liftoff you say? Awesome.
Exactly! I'm also going to add compat-wireless to the OS so it's super simple for first time users to set it up on computers that need wireless support.

Sorry about the doublepost, but I thought this was bump worthy. First successful boot into gnome today, both in an emulator and off of a usb stick. We have liftoff I can now start work on adding in important packages, customizing the graphics and more

Got to fix a few things that I accidentally broke while trying to rearrange my stuff to save space, but as soon as I do I'll post an iso for you to use Keep in mind at this stange you wont get anything other then a command line with really basic stuff.
