News / iOmnom - OmnomIRC gone Mobile
« on: April 28, 2011, 11:44:36 pm »
I (Eeems) have been hard at work creating a mobile experience for OmnomIRC. iOmnom allows you to chat in almost real time with everybody using the normal OmnomIRC as well as everybody in #Omnimaga.
iOmnom uses the Sencha touch framework and therefore works on most smartphones today. iOmnom only works on Webkit based browsers (like Chrome and Safari) and therefore will only work on smartphones with a webkit based web browser. Sencha touch works on iDevices, Android and Blackberry devices with more to possibly come.
iOmnom is secure in the fact that you have to have a forum account to use it. If you are not registered it will redirect you to a login page which will then redirect you back to iOmnom. I am still not finished iOmnom so feel free to request changes in the appropriate thread here.
Have fun chatting!

EDIT:Support for the #omnimaga-fr channel has been added. Make sure to reset your settings before testing for the first time (found on the top right of the settings titlebar).
EDIT 2(Netham45):
I've written an ultra-light mobile client that will work on Opera Mini.

General Calculator Help / Re: Boot Options
« on: April 28, 2011, 04:13:37 pm »
Remove one battery, hold down delete put the battery back in. This will boot to a mode where all you can do is send an OS to it. It's useful for when you install third party OS's and want to send a new OS and the third party one doesn't have link support in any way yet :)

Well written tutorial albert!
One small addition to number 7. You can also mount FTP/SFTP as a drive through the default file manager (nautilus) which makes it much easier to manage the files etc :)

Ubuntu is the *easiest* Linux to use...
You could try a Ubuntu variant like Linux Mint, it adds on top of Ubuntu and makes things easier.

You might want to try an older stabler version of Ubuntu like Scout suggested. I'm just as confused as you on why the next button wont work, It might be an error with your specific build that nobody noticed?

I've PM'd eeems all he should need to make something like this.
Yep you have :) Thanks!
It would be nice if it was possible. I assume it would still interface with people accounts, right?
I'm not quite sure how to as of yet. I'll have to talk to Netham about how he does it, although I'm going to to wait until after I get some of the preliminary stuff done.

Making a biodegradable downloadable client sounds like it'd be ridiculously hard for little benefit over a webpage.
it would be way too hard x.x
Eeems, check your PMs.
done
Edit: the hell? 'biodegradable'? Screw you too spellecheck.

Erm, don't know if downloadable will be possible, I'm pretty sure what I'm going to make will work for you.
This reminds me I need to bug Netham about the API he uses for omnomirc.

Ah right I forgot about that...I always disable that in my programs. Looks great though Eeems, I'll have to check it out.
I don't always like not having it in programs but it depends on what it is :P
Hope you enjoy it when you check it out :)

Ok, so fixed an error with the server and I've tested it on Chromium Browser (10.0.648.205 (81283) Built on Ubuntu 10.10) and I'm not getting any errors so far. I also am in the middle of fixing my sorting settings, the sort by song is currently not sorting in the right order.

EDIT: actually, it seems chromium fails at playing music, but that is the only thing it can't do.

EDIT2: it seems that the real issue is with chromium itself. The chromium package build for ubuntu fails at playing media inside the html5 audio/video tags for now. If you are on ubuntu try building from source (like I am). It might work, I'll let you know if it does.

EDIT3: So I couldn't get it to build correctly so I'm going to try it with google chrome instead.

EDIT4: Chrome handles audio tags just fine :D Also tested with safari on both windows and mac, both work fine :) If you having issues and the error log mentions something about the application cache being too large, your settings are what are causing the issue, go make the cache size larger (although the cache is not really that big for this)
