On Skype I could understand most of what Eeems said when we did Skype conferences over a year ago.
Yay I can now attend more because I finally got my webcam working on my computer ( the built in mic too ). Speaking of the skype conferences, we should do them again sometime

I would say go with Firefox, ( It is a linux default for many Distro's after all ) and let the people install Chrome if they want it. Maybe even just have a custom application that will let you choose from all available browsers and then installs it for you? ...and maybe Wine...
I did say wine Eclipse due to C compatibilities (for the NSpire and 68K).
Hmm, and if someone could develop a eclipse plugin specifically for TI development that would make it even better Xchat, irssi (both defaulting to EFNet), some sort of dev environment for nspire (nspire-gcc?) and 68k, wxWabbitemu, Tilem and some sort of text editor/IDE that works with them.
I guess X-Chat because it's what most people use in the linux community, and it does work pretty well. irssi would be great too for the more advanced users who want to use console stuff wxWabbitemu requires a lot more work still, but when it's done it would be a great addition. And gedit with a Z80 scheme
Sounds like a great plan

I might also suggest upgrading your OS to 2.43, although that probably doesn't effect the issue at all.

Also, a suggestion: How about disabling Omnom when the user leaves the page, and enabling it when he returns? Then we wouldn't have to worry about timing out and all that stuff.
That sounds like a great idea, and it's completely doable too.

Hmm list of stuff we should have installed. Firefox, Thunderbird, TiLP2, WINE, nspire emulator, all other emulators for TI that work, IRC client, some sort of dev environment for z80, a post notifier, more?

Ugh....Unity *Shudder* Nice for netbooks, I suppose. I still prefer GNOME, but hey, to each his/her own
For netbooks it's great, after all a full desktop doesn't really work that well for it. I still like GNOME/KDE but this would be cool to try out.
I heard Unity will be shipped as the default DE in the next Ubuntu desktop release.
Yeah that's the plan I believe. Not many people are happy with it.

I'm not surprised. Desktop managers often take some configuring before they'll start working, and packages, unlike OS installs, want you to do it yourself.
I've never had this issue getting a DE to work. KDE GNOME and LXDE have all worked pretty much out of the box for me. I only had to do a little work for LXDE to get it to show up in the KDM menu when I was playing around with it.

Hey Deep Though, I'm having issues getting things to actually display when I log in with a unity session, do you have any experience with setting it up at all?

Ah ok, I thought x was installed. apparently things aren't showing up correctly I guess...strange. A Ubuntu based version would be great Juju I used the attached image for the logo if you want to use it at all.

Yeah, I found out it won't work because my CPU doesn't support PAE. So, awesome. I'm going to try downloading/burning for my other computer.
PAE same here
Hm. Well, it's obviously the kernel you are using that's the problem, but PAE should run fine on my CPU.
Apparently, although I don't know why this would happen. I myself use the most recent linux kernel (albeit the ubuntu branch) with no problems. I guess I'll have to rebuild this and see if I can fix it or something.

As I've mentioned before, I intend too, I just haven't gotten around to adding it all yet.
EDIT: I seem to be not able to boot the OS on a virtual disk because it's missing things. I guess I'm going to have to copy it onto my usb and run from that.
