I understand. I wish Omni had admins accross multiple timezones, though, but again this is not always possible and it could make admin meetings hard.
I'm on the other side of the continent from geekboy >.> we span timezones ;P

This had been done weeks ago on TI-Planet, and as far as I know it hadn't been newsed about here, which is your right:
http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14065&p=158990

But now that you've newsed about something similar, not even a single link to the anterior information in the news is not normal.

I suppose it hasn't been done on purpose of course, and I expect more professional news in the future if the new Omnimaga newsers want the site to keep its reference position in the TI community, a reputation I've contributed to build with my many years of volunteer work here.
We linked to our source, Cemetech.

Yeah, the issue is that it caused page views to skyrocket, so for example one day there were 250000 views, when in fact it was 25000-50000 or so. I think that widget is also why people had troubles logging in too (too many login attempts due to the widget reloading pages multiple times).
The widget didn't reload automatically.

Yeah I saw the roadmap >.<, at least some of the important features are back though. (such as new posts)
The roadmap doesn't even cover the issues/requests list. There is a lot to do.

I save my vacation for Christmas. I'll be getting a little less busy in a couple weeks though. There are lots of things to do outside of just the theme though, so its a toss up on what gets worked on first.

I meant a realtime feed on the home page, not a constant update on 377000 posts :P
There was no real time feed (Unless you count The posts bot on OmnomIRC, which we still have). There was a little recent posts widget though.

Well if they wanted to buy the site I'd price it higher then that. I already know how much I'd charge yearly to run the site at the current support level we have. Let me tell you, it ain't cheap.
I don't know about support since it could turn away certain companies, but I know that just the fact that Omni has existed for almost 13 years, an entire decade online and had large following through certain periods of time (and even though activity is way down right now, it attracts many people who need calculator support), would be a good excuse to jack the price up. If it was sold to another individual the same way Casiokingdom did, then maybe it could be priced lower, but to an overly greedy company like TI? In such case you should go ahead and charge as high as you can if they really want to acquire the site.
Support costs wouldn't turn away companies. Most of the money spent on anything is for support. To run a site corporately you have to pay someone to keep it running. Currently there are a couple of us fulfilling multiple roles (such as DBA, server admin, application developer etc) and working long hours (sometimes all night) to make sure that this site can run.
Any company would be paying for that service to keep a site that they own running.

Plus you'd have to have a computer that could handle it. And server load would be high.

I'm going to re-work the notifications eventually.

701
I sure hope not. The resources required for that would be massive. Post data is 300MB+ before parsing as is.

Yes, and it will only be compatible with IE5 sorry.
Joking aside, a realtime feed where you can see what is happening is a cool idea. I might design something with together.js and polling the database for recent activity to allow something similar-ish.

Yay ! Facebook buys Mojang, TI buys Omnimaga, ... That's a lot of awesome companies buying awesome program developpers around April ;)
I'm hoping that the new Facebook redesign is 10% fake. I actually like it better, but the fonts are a bit too large. :P
The facebook redesign was out months ago for some people.

you guys held out for the good deal offers, right? i thought we weren't going to be doing this unless they agreed to produce merchandise / upgrade the server / etc.
Of course. Full time salary for all the admins too.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Wanting to trade Mirror's Edge - Steam

Unfortunately I already have mirrors edge, so I can't really trade for it.

My one comment is though, you think you get motion sick playing on a normal screen... Imagine how bad it is playing on the occulus rift X.x Never again.
