Also I seriously doubt that even for an unscheduled downtime that a provider would give back money unless you asked them, unless it lasted more than 3-4 hours or so. I'm betting that if someone's site goes offline for 10 minutes at 5 AM and no one notices (by visiting the site or via any logs), the company will most likely not bother, since they are all there to make money. Unless Ubiquity is more honest than usual.
SLA requires them to if it's unscheduled and not emergency. Ubiquityhosting is very good about honouring their SLA.

Hm, another downtime
But don't you *at least* get your money back with that provider?
This is scheduled downtime. No provider gives money back for scheduled downtime. https://www.ubiquityservers.com/sla

erf, that sucks (but at least you know ...)
(Also, is there a particular reason for not having a proper dedicated server from a hosting company ? For example, TI-Planet uses Online)
VPS is easier to manage, plus cheaper. If I was really concerned about downtime like this, I could have a couple servers (One on each of their centres) and mirror across each. This way we wouldn't have to worry about this downtime, but again, cost.

Just got an email from the hosting providers. Scheduled maintenance start time (Different Time zones included below for ease of reference): 9:00AM BST Thursday Oct 10th, 2013 8:00AM GMT Thursday Oct 10th, 2013 1:00AM MST Thursday Oct 10th, 2013 4:00AM EDT Thursday Oct 10th, 2013
Anticipated maintenance window duration: 4 hours

Apparently the maintenance was more on host side, not admins.
Well that is what I said in the first post if you notice it. I'm not sure why there was no downtime, but they sent me an email saying that it was going to happen. No idea why it didn't.

Oh that seems kinda cool. What would be nice, though, is if you could integrate this into the imode/wap/wap2 templates, along with IMG tag support, so people who don't use Tapatalk have a faster way to browse Omni while still being able to use the chat simultaneously.
imode/wap/wap2 aren't suppose to have images on them. Fixing image tags would be going against their standards. Integrating textmode OmnomIRC would also cause issues with browsing due to how textmode works.

what if you suddenly get amnesia or something and forget all your passwds
Then I reset the root password and reset my password. Also, my host panel login is stored on my home computer (which I'm not worried about for security due to 2-factor authentication).

hm....i don't have school on that day, i guess i'll have to knex some then instead xD
Or work on on of the projects we are working on ;P Will the entire site content vanish forever?
Just kidding, good luck and keep those backups going in case lol
(Also I guess that either Friday night or the evening afterward are good times to perform such maintenance, since there is rarely anyone ever using the forums then)
There are auto backups of the whole site happening every year, month, week and day. The database is synced with another one of my servers every single time something changes.

Oh ok so just the old IDs would change? Keep in mind that to sort by date you'll most likely have to write a SMF mod yourself (since modifying the forum code directly can prevent installing official security patches). I asked for such mod before, but the people weren't cooperative and kept arguing that SMF sorted by date, even if it's not the case.
That said, it is entirely possible that SMF 2.0 does it by default, but I could be wrong. You might have to rewrite the mod for 2.0 when the upgrade happens.
If I modified the code, I'd modify security patches as well. SMF does sort by date, as long as you don't start playing with forum IDs. If you start playing with IDs, then they are no longer in chronological order.

Aren't negative post IDs causing problems too or is it just because of the topic IDs?
Also why not incrementing by +100000 so that the redirect script can also work on all 17084 topics with positive IDs (by redirecting, for example, topic #5000 to topic #105000, rather than #7597, which might already exist)? Else with +2597 increment, redirecting would cause overlapping to occur.
Any negative ID is causing the issue. I'm not going to redirect every single topic, only any reference to a negative ID. That way the old ID's don't have to change. I'll also see if I can sort topics by date instead of ID.

For those of you with access to Private Matters: http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=192.150 and subsequent pages don't show any topics, even though it's listed as the 4th page out of 11
I think this is related to the messed up board postcounts. This happens in almost every sub-forum. Notice also how certain topics shows on multiple pages.
IIRC it had something to do with the new server or database setup not supporting negative topic IDs, but I could be wrong.
Yes, I know. I'll deal with this in due course. EDIT: it does seems to be an issue with negative IDs. I just pulled a report of all the topics on the board. There are a lot less then 11 pages worth. There are also 4 topics that have negative IDs. I'll have to sort out this negative ID thing quickly... EDIT2: Ok, so the lowest topic ID is -2597 and the highest one currently is 17084 (when I ran the script). I think I'm going to figure out a way to catch any reference to a negative ID and increment it to match wherever I increment the topic ID to. I'll do a freeze when I do and increment all topic ID's that are negative by 2597+(the current highest ID) and then any links pointing to a negative ID will be redirected to the new page.

eyyup, that fixes it. wonder why the error popped up in the first place though - was definately yesterday around 11pm GMT+1 when it happened.
It's because I was trying to setup bugzilla and I couldn't get CGI scripts to run. It also was overwriting our normal config so that all sites were being redirected to the bugzilla subdomain. I've since decided to avoid using bugzilla though due to how our server is setup.

Bugzilla hasn't been on the site since yesterday afternoon. Try clearing your cache.
