Hi, everyone. A lot of people probably don't know me since I'm not too people-oriented and don't socialize much (heck, I think it took me several years just to figure out that most of the discussion activity actually took place outside of ticalc.org ), but I'm the other recently-hired file archiver over there. Anyway, I just thought I'd hang out here from time to time to get a feel for what's going on, especially in the area of the TI-83+/84+ where my knowledge is quite limited, and answer any questions or concerns that I come across that I'm able to. Well, see you later!
I remember see news with your name. Nice job! ticalc was without entries for several months...So I may be appreciate above the normal... Welcome here and stay a bit. Even if you can't do your games why not publish the design? You can keep to you all you choose, of course, but it may inspire others or just make them do it. Like me with Lost Legends 1. I took the design (and some code because the project "died" with the last programmer) and I am doing it. With the experience I gain from it, I will do my own. (me hopes gets all finished)

Why TI forums don't allow .inc, .asm, .z80, .8xp and .8xk files? I know there is .txt and zip but sometimes only one file is enough. xD Bah don't bother with this, easily fixable. I didn't know that screens were so limited by size... I hope people rush to show their projects now.

Well,
After new search, I just find stuff like OTBP or TSAM on calc. So, can we consider that a "little" 84SE as TI-Basic, BBC Basic, and ASM on calc ?
It's just amazing.
Yeah, it is quite interesting. There are nice utilities. Some we at first would never imagine possible. I am jealous of you, that can have big surprises easily. That was "cheap" fun. Trying assembly oncalc is not great idea... Did you mention about nspire not recommend for coding? I read this post in diagonal... Short version is nspire has no output functions (like lines, points and even text output) I doubt a big RPG can be done with BBC Basic, unless BBC Basic has support for both sub-routines and copying alerady existing BBC Basic programs from the archive to the RAM. If it doesn't support both these things, then forget about a large RPG, you will pretty much need to have your RPG split into 2 hour chapters, password protected (the password gets told when you finish chapter 1, for example, and when starting chapter 2, you're asked for the password the first time you run it, or the program checks the saved file (if saved files are even possible with BBC Basic) to make sure it's a valid chapter 2 save file. Then you do that with the next few chapters, with a different password each time.
hmm you might be right. But I will check this once I do my last exam.

Decreasing drop of monster works too. You only possess ring items for equipping. No armours, swords and other traditional items... A little offtopic: one of the things I enjoy in RPGs is shopping. Nothing is more relaxing... Sometimes exploring maps to activate key items can be nice under normal circumstances (all goes as you plan)

MegaMan... oh I love Zero series. I haven't play the GB games yet... That is strange, the objects disappear... Exists ways to optimize the emulator without great rewrite? It is already fantastic but pushing it to the limit to see what happens.

Don't forget there is BBC Basic port to TI-83+ series. It can do games comparable to TI-BASIC with libs or even assembly. It should surpass TI-BASIc things. And is a new programming experience that surprisingly is having a slow development on it. Maybe with some exciting games on it (like Tetris to start off) and a big RPG can launch interest on it. I completely ignore if you can do massive things with BBC BASIC. But it allows to run assembly and so a lib is possible in the future to overcome some things like TI-BASIC libs do. About 68k line, there are few people around but some can help. Happy programming in the future! PS: tell us what you think of HP compared to TI. I would like to hear

starwars refrence (:
How do you know that things from memory?! I have seen some curiosities about games such as speeches in the games almost equal to Star Wars. Oh back to topic. It looks bad. I hope that new staff balance things... Is that hard getting activity during summer? In September we should gain announces of projects and such?

Attacking 2 times if speed is very high? Instant add in my future designed RPG. In hard mode one of the cool things is increase the overall shop prices. I think I prefer not limit so much max LVL and HP but instead increase hp in monsters ... But this is bad idea if the battles turn too long. I like "puzzle" boss battles. They are fun if you get a good animation and do not repeat too much those kind of bosses. It turns pathetic beating 4 bosses in a row with cheap tricks. How many items do you have so far? Rounded numbers of course. (by rounded I mean sort of a estimative but rounded sounds a good expression)

Hmm... TiBoy doesn't sound bad. TiBoy SE?
Sounds great, more with silver edition.

You can take screens with TI-COnnect. Only still screens and when you are using the normal key input in TI-OS...

Edit: It's still more convenient to use WabbitEmu so you don't have to send the huge application to your calculator.
True. Having Pokemon Red sitting on calc will be difficult... (almost all archive) But it would be epic to show. You deserve 2 splash screens.

good suggestion.
And calcmaniac, you use hardware not supported by some (all) emulators right? Write them down in readme and here please.
How risky it is to load not tested roms? Or even tested ones. From emulator I would try some... In real calculator only tested ones, making a list would be good.

DJ, during all that code change you could optimize things... I optimized some very old code of mine 3 times. I don't think it is boring, actually I think is positive to see my progress in optimization. I know you are not the optimization kind of person but in TI-BASIC it is important and adds some value for the work. There is some examples... But finishing the game and being already playable is better than not having it, of course. I hope you get time, motivation and most important enjoyment to finish this.

Ugh yeah... I myself can't even run Reuben Quest Ev Awakening on my TI-Nspire (lot of programs gives ERR:UNDEFINED). Only Merthsoft ever got to run it fine on anything else than a TI-83+ or a TI-83+SE. THe main issue is TI-Connect I think. Many of my old games won't send fine with TI connect.
this is not to mention usually i had to unpack hacked pics in some of my games and full of steps to install the game. Illusiat 13 is just a 2 step install process at least.
But Tilp works good? I want to play them someday. ^^
