Miscellaneous / Re: Forums inactivity
« on: June 17, 2010, 11:53:37 am »
At ti-wereld we get like 5 posts a day  during exam periods, and strangely, 2/day during normal periods  :D. The explanation is obvious: we don't have any running projects. The only thing we still have is our offtopic board and the newbie help board, which, of course, gets a lot of activity during exam periods where everyone needs help.

(and apparently, Flemish and Dutch schoolkids are incapable of reading the big sticky topic called FAQ... Half of the questions is like: TiConnect doesn't work! help!)
At least some try to use TI-Connect. But I believe many errors could be avoided by TI. I know because it sometimes did not work for me because I deleted a temporary folder for example.

Yes, without new projects, there is few talk.

The Axe Parser Project / Re: Axe Tokens (Read Post Before Voting)
« on: June 17, 2010, 10:41:41 am »
Totally not practical, it is simply too much code. What we can change is documentation on the commands and a guide to convert old to new code. Move old code posts to a archive, a graceful rest for them. Nothing more can be done about it.

hahaha true
Still, good luck with the regular expressions. They might give funny conversions in some cases as well.

EDIT: by the way, they can be conveniently used for the two versions of documentation too.
Keeping a table with equivalents is also nice.

Other Calculators / Re: Final year into programming?
« on: June 17, 2010, 10:38:53 am »
I won't to wish a farewell yet because:
If things goes well I could very well remain around for several more years. I'll see how that goes...
Hope is the last thing to end.

Anyway, you were incredible in coding and releasing your games, talk in the forums (ok, true on 99% of times but happens to other persons as well), keeping a community like this one and even reviving the TI calculator community recently.

I really defend you should be a bit around, even if behind the scenes backing Builderboy, Eeems and Ztrumpet. Think about this.
And if is good for you end any stress originate from coding, I totally support your choice. ;) But, please, do not loose the joy of playing calculator games. ;D

DJ I think you are not seeing all aspects of this discussion because you are taking too much your position and even taking it personal, in my opinion.

I think DJ is right to hide all the old posts because the transition will be harder if we continue using them. But he might being dramatic, too, for quitting Omnimaga because of Axe Parser changes that are ultimate choice of its coder, Quigibo.
Not doubt users should have an determinant weight on the matter of software but if users are not happy about it, in this kind of situation, the solution is code themselves new software for their needs.
Also you are stressing Quigibo and all others by the "If when I return tonight there are no updates this is my final post on Omnimaga.". At least give more time to Quigibo than just this night. You are making him precipitate a choice. I agree this choice has to be made as soon as possible.

Now about the part you are not giving attention to all aspects:
I enjoy the idea of using the TI-BASIC tokens, it was really good at start but became complicated. Because it really drops readability of Axe Parser source. Programming languages try to be readable to people and programmers. If Axe Parser continues to use TI-BASIC tokens and get more complicate, it will be hard to programmers from any language other than TI-BASIC (and even some TI-BASIC coders that know other languages), because we learnt eventually all the high level math commands of TI-BASIC but others don't.

The best scenario I can think of, and is a good scenario, and is my sincere opinion is:
1. Don't change the tokens, continue using the TI-BASIC tokens like the initial spirit. Keep the TIOS program editor as it is.
2. Code a custom program editor that changes the tokens text for readability.
3. Have 2 documentations whose difference is simply replace old text by new text. Using a HTML template is a way.
4. Encourage coders to use the "readability mode".
This stills has some problems but can be smartly overcome. I think it is worth the effort about the readability and custom editor that can go little more complex in translating the old token text to new.

Responses:
I think that the option should be there, but they should not be required.  Also,
still remains the fact the old and news commands would still be plastered all over the forums
Then why don't we take the time to go back through and change the posts?
Totally not practical, it is simply too much code. What we can change is documentation on the commands and a guide to convert old to new code. Move old code posts to a archive, a graceful rest for them. Nothing more can be done about it.

Other thing:
Note our posts decrease and reputation changes. :O

Miscellaneous / Re: Where Did Your Name Come From?
« on: June 17, 2010, 07:17:06 am »

So basically you thought of the idea of nx (which basically means that 3x is equal to  xxx; 42=2222=224=216=65 536) by yourself without knowing it existed? Sweet :)
Wow, one time I was playing around the idea of studying X^X, then X^X^X behaviour of the function. It grows even faster than exponentials. xD I did not know it had name.
In school sometimes I get ahead of class because I start to study by myself math that I don't know.

It's an attempt to establish a gender-nonconformative alias, and influence fluid relationships that are independent of male-male territoriality and sexual rivalry. "Zera" doesn't sound at all masculine. It's a figurative manner of self-castration to avoid eliciting primal jealousy / antagonism from other males.

... yes - that sort of thing happens online. :P
I noted how neutral in gender the name is, the first time I saw you in forums. :P Even with my abbreviated form of the nickname (Gal or Gala), my gender was confused. (so I use it in games that some types of character are female only)

On the start of this reincarnation of Omnimaga forums you saw many of the users battling a bit for the medals, though. Like necro, DJ, etc..
I like some games like Hexxagon. I competed for some for a few time. :P I still have one.

Introduce Yourself! / Re: New Person Here.
« on: June 16, 2010, 04:52:18 am »
Welcome and enjoy your stay.

It is never too late to review the basis and that also happens to me. People who learn by themselves usually go through that problem if they don't use a splendid book or other source in the beginning.
I had many mistakes of some theory of programming like what really is object oriented programming, when some people probably learnt from the start in a boring and easy way.

I don't normally like to introduce. Skipping it is much more comfortable for me without any good reason. But it has not always been like this.
And later getting into the community, I feel like don't need to introduce. But if I ever introduce I might tell my name and other information depending on the forum.

Altough maybe his parents could eventually notice something weird and discover about the flash drive. Also what if the computer has all USB ports disabled (like at the Internet Cafe I used in 2007 when I had no internet at home) or no USB port at all?
It can happen. Also I have seen computers very restricted overall on purpose. It is rare but you can only browse the Internet practically for research, you can't execute anything except notepad, wordpad, paint, calculator, my documents folder, IE and OpenOffice.

Site Feedback and Questions / Re: A Guide for New Members?

Yeah there is a captcha. For the PM I could maybe install something automatic at one point, but if it's not possible I'm not really gonna PM 100 members a month warning them they need 5 posts to edit their profile :P
Right, use automatic PMs. I forgot to mention explicitly that part.

The introduction could be a easy place for acquiring 1 post at least. But it gets spamish because of peanuts and things like that. :D And sometimes people abuse a little bit the place for posting, too.
There is no simple solution for this. New users just have to go find solutions.

Quote
:If (X-P<16 or (P-X<16)) and (Y=Q
:If (Y-Q<16 or (Q-Y<16)) and (P=X
:0->L
:End:End
Disclaimer: I am not yet a Axe Parser programmer. I will try to not just give away code, instead give you some pointers to fix the problem.

Check if you need " and " logic. It may be the reason why you only loose when you are in the place of the bomb.

I think you don't need signed comparison in "X-P<16 or (P-X<16)" and "Y-Q<16 or (Q-Y<16)" like you are doing.
But if Axe Parser has abs() you can do like in BASIC: abs(X-P)<16. Dunno if it would be optimized but is probably easier for TI-BASIC coders read.

Our anti bots measures would be a good addition if it wasn't also good for bots makers.
Is there any CAPTCHA during registration?

Maybe we can send a PM to new users saying that any doubt, they can ask in the forums or something like this.

I think SirCmpwn should use a portable anonymous web browser running from a flash drive (can be easily hidden). Firefox 3.6 can do the trick.

I really should move my big historic to a safe place soon. :P I am getting a bit paranoiac after reading this topic. (I have about 12700 visits to Omnimaga xD)

Ha, not(C.

-If I remember they bruteforced his passwords for e-mail and stuff a few times too.
No, they just threatened to destroy my calculator if I didn't tell them.

It's amazing when a calculator becomes an effective ransoming tool. :)

Good luck, though.
That is pure evil. I can't imagine the kind of persons they are or I am missing lots of things.

x.x that seems a bit hard to read. It would be good to have something easier to read and store when coding x.x
Indeed.
You can save "1980612202.6510" as a string and code a routine to convert it into OP1.

---

You can use inline assembly for accessing the bcalls for making floating point math.
