Computer Projects and Ideas / [Contest] System Crash
« on: November 22, 2011, 12:15:05 pm »
Bad Halo reference aside, I'm making a small zombie game in C++ for the contest. It'll actually be a dual stick shooter/tower defense hybrid featuring power ups, defenses, weapons, and levels you can freely transverse.

I don't have a screenshot atm, but I am making very good progress. XD

Edit: Changed title to new name for entry

How about enemies and differing terrain? Also you could make some lights moving and others static.

Did you see my idea in the first page?

How about a platformer where you lose life by staying in the darkness, and you regain health by slivers of light within the level. And as time progresses the light starts fading away.

I like to use the most current themes for any board. Usually. Suffice to say I'm currently using V5 :P

Miscellaneous / Re: Why did you learn how to program?
« on: November 21, 2011, 01:18:49 pm »
That's true. :P The most effective strategy, however, is probably to show the serious side of programming. Parents will only think, "He's just doing it to play games and have fun". I think that one needs to show the serious, adult side of programming and how they're setting themselves up for success in that environment.

And if you have parents who say you can't program just because they think it's like gaming just say it might help you get a job later in life.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work in every situation. I have parents that are borderline that mentality and they claim that I'm making 'excuses'. Really, the best way of convincing them would probably be to show them what you've made and the support its gotten.

Results work wonders :P

It's windowed atm, I need to figure out how to make it fullscreen without allowing different sized monitors to see more or less of the map.

I'll need to figure out how to make it change the resolution.

Hmm. I'm on the East Coast and for me it's on and off. Sometimes there's a wait, mostly though it's pretty fast.

I learned because I want to be able to literally tell the computer what to do, and how to do it. I was interested in the level of control over the computer that programming gave me. :D
