Hey guys, this is probably temporary, but I made an OmnomIRC channel called @omnirpg for discussion... (in options allow extra channels)

I can't find it.

Hmm. We should set up a teamchat or something of the like for storyline discussion (as well as a few dedicated writers who will make the actual story)

648
If we do party members and turn based, we could make your team mates members of the Omni community who help you :D

(and each will have a special attack pertaining to them) :P

649
We should have the battle system classed based like in FFV, except only the player can change classes. Allies remain a single class (but are typically very powerful in them)

650
I was thinking perhaps a turn based system similar to Chrono Cross. Attacks have points and you spend points to attack.

Or, a real time one where you accumulate a certain rate of points and you spend them as you see fit for attacks (some attacks take a large amount of points, others take little, etc)

Hmm. We could do a more FF/LoZ type gameplay where there is an overworld with locations and no real "level"

(Going off the idea I had earlier about collecting the UberGraphX parts)

Dungeon 1: RAM (Tutorial, movement controls, sets up story, awaken ancient evil)
Dungeon 2: TI HQ (Fight to stop TI and help unify the continent)
Dungeon 3: Programming Editor (Fight against Assembly, BASIC, Grammer, Axe, etc users to stop wars)
Dungeon 4: Cemetech (Fight the nikky simulator as a test of strength)
Dungeon 5: Casio (Fight against hostile anti-TI enemies to unify both continents)
Dungeon 6: Archives (Search for the scatters parts of the UberGraphX)
Dungeon 7: Exotic lands of the Computers (Reclaim the final portion of the UberGraphX (The OS))
Dungeon 8: Omnimaga (Fight the final boss)
Dungeon 9: World Editor (Fight enemy armies during world creation process)
Dungeon 10: Perfect world (Stop the boss from taking over)

I meant to say we need a giant mechanical fortress section in story. :P

I get it :D
* HOMER-16 thinks Fire Ship in FFV

That's why I think a Medieval/Sci-Fi theme would work well. Kind of like some Final Fantasy's are.

Spoiler For Spoiler:
TI:
Omnimaga
Cemetect
UnitedTI
TI Calc

Casio:
Casio Kingdom
CasioCalc

And very far off are the exotic lands of the Computers

Omni is a programming website. The basic moves should be:
Program: +1 to 5 ponies, depending on what you do
Post: -5 ponies
Omnom: -7 ponies
Lobster: -15 ponies

Hmm. That would be more fitting towards discussing the combat system and core mechanics of the game. Lets just discuss storyline concepts in this thread :P

Edit: Should the story be more serious minded overall with jokes, memes, and easter eggs supplementing the story, or just have the story be more light minded overall?

I'd be more in favor of serious minded for a greater effect on the player :P

This is not Zelda, there will be no crystals (I believe)
Who says that the only game that can have crystals is Zelda? Minecraft has diamonds.

Final Fantasy is well known for using crystals as well. It's almost an RPG staple :P

so are we collecting 7 crystals?

Oh! You must collect the 7 legendary pieces of the UberGraphX (Uberspire did have a prototype, after all) and to finally create a perfect world all can reside in (and hopefully, will return you to the real world) The ancient evil, wishes to use this to create a world in which they rule with absolute power.

* pimathbrainiac likes

edit: Make the country of Netham an island nation who's major export is lobster!

Netham is a government official who's lobster army helps protect Omni :D
He also have a vested interest in crabbing and lobster :P

Hmm. Also, some believe that they can make a perfect world, however, many have tried and many have failed. Some attempts become historical, such as the "UberGraphX project."

Ok, so I have a (rather barebones) storyline concept.

In essence, since this is a primarily Omnimaga-based community project, why not make the story based around Omni itself? :D

You start as a general, run-of-the-mill calc enthusiast. You have just bought the latest calc, but little do you know this calc is different from others. You see, you have unknowingly bought the first calculator, known in myth as the "DJ_Omnimaga's Holy Calculator." Upon turning it on, you have been transported inside the calculator to a place known as "Omnimaga" which resides inside the "TI" continent. Omnimaga is a peace-loving realm, however, not everything is as it seems. There is trouble stirring. While Omnimaga is at peace with its neighbors like the country of Cemetech, there are ancient tensions building between the different philosophies. Some people follow "the Way of the Assembly" others, "the Way of the Axe" and hostilities are building up. There is also discontent with recent events. And people are leaving to settle the continent of Casio. And behind everything, an ancient evil has its sights of dominating the calculator world, and through you, the Outer world as well.

As the player, you will have to settle these smaller disputes and unify the community against this evil. I your quest, you will meet individuals such as DJ_Omnimaga, who founded the country or Quigibo, who began the Way of the Axe. (Aka, we will have cameos in this story) :P

That's the basic idea I have right now.

I also have an idea for one. Should we start another thread for storyline discussion?

I'm thinking, maybe for the theme a medieval/Sci Fi blend. Kind of like if medieval times had some advanced technology.

I'm thinking we should perhaps make a section for this or even a client forum for discussion on multiple aspects. (Also, the agreed story will affect the theme, so we might want to focus on that as well)

Edit: pimath, I am and possibly Juju if he has time it seems
