Suggestion for contest rules:

-Any participant that is caught mentioning "computer section" or any derivative in this topic, inside his calc game or in any thread related to this contest is automatically disqualified. :P

That might hopefully stop people from bitching about the lack of a computer section and people from asking if there is a computer category. :P

You just gave me an awesome idea! The apocalypse happened because we didn't get a computer section and we destroyed the world! :evillaugh:

jk :P

Possibly depending upon how it's coded. The sprite itself is just an image, but a class containing the sprite could have that quality.

I can't wait to see what you come up with! I'm particularly excited for the use of Box2D - I've tried it in the past, but never made anything as major as this. It'll be cool to see how rotational physics contributes, not to mention all the other cool Box2D libraries!

It will be a learning experience for me, I've never used Box2D before. It should be most useful, however :D

Hopefully it can run at a quite good framerate as well. I wonder if the game will look better if some sort of motion blur simulation is added to the character and some particles? That kinda added a nice touch to the original (even if it was due to the calc)

I'm thinking about creating the character sprite, purely out of particles. That way, it could simulate a mice motion blur effect without having to draw each frame by hand in gimp. I could also see what I could do with sfml's post processing effects. :)

I'm just wondering... can I make an entry and enter it in this and the Cemetech contest?

I assume that would be ok as long as it conforms to both themes. So if you port and modify a apocalyptic themed game, you should be fine :D

Ah nice to see it posted here too. I was wondering if you and juju were planning to cross-post your project. Graviter was awesome so I would love to see a computer port. :)

Just make sure it doesn't abuse particles way too much, though, so it won't lag lol. :P

SPARK works very fast and efficiently. Even on a computer with a very low end graphics card, it can handle tens of thousands of particles with >100 FPS :D

That said, I won't since too many will detract from the simpleness and effectiveness of the gameplay and graphics. :P

This is more or less a cross post from here.

My entry for Cemetech's 9th contest will be bringing Leafy's Graviter to Windows. With some gameplay changes, of course. :P

This port of Graviter will make use of a Gravity Gun that can create points of gravity or antigravity. It will also feature a custom storyline.

I plan on using:

SFML for all media and most graphics
SPARK for particle effects (Should make the game look very nice)
Box2D for collision detection and physics

It will be written in C++.

Well the reason that I decided not to include computer section is that cemetech contest 9 is starting soon. :) and the lack of funding. I'm pretty sure that ceme contest will have a computer section, so I decided not to bother with it.

From Kerm's latest post on the Cemetech contest ideas thread

Quote
Categories: (1) z80 calculators (ASM, Axe, and BASIC judged and weighted together), (2) Casio calculators (fx9860g and Prizm, although we'd probably only get Prizm entries), and (3) computers.

It does look like there will be a comp section.

I was hoping there would be a computer section for this contest as I was going to compete in both :P

"what do you make this list for ?" (iirc)

Close, but you'd want to use the past tense, "what did" instead of "what do" (present tense). ;)

Not meaning to be a grammar Nazi or anything. :P

Gaming Discussion / Re: Halo 4

BY the way, some other people have told me as well that the campaing seemed much harder than in previous games.

It seemed more difficult for me. I played Heroic settings and it felt like Legendary in previous games.

Gaming Discussion / Halo 4

So if you are like me, you greatly anticipated Halo 4, and if you are like me you stayed up all night last night when it released playing campaign/multiplayer/forge/whatever.

I'd like to know what you all think of Halo 4, was it good/bad/stunning/$#!%? Please share your opinion here :D

I managed to play most of the campaign last night before I left for classes, but I here's what I think of the campaign in general

Spoiler For Warning Spoilers:
Ultimately, I think the campaign was great. There were a lot of issues in it though that hindered the experience a little, but the overall effect of the gameplay and missions made the campaign stunning for me.

Beyond that though, I feel it was very rushed. there was a lot they tried to cram in and it loses impact on the player. For instance, they pretty much tell you right off the bat that Cortana was going rampant, they made it an issue to the player immediately. Though because it happens at the beginning, there isn't much to make the player care yet. Instead, had she tried to keep quiet about it and you start to see the effects before she finally reveals it in the midgame, it would have been a solid dramatic moment, and would have carried a lot of weight. I truly felt that content and missions they were showing in the beginning (wakening the Protheans) really belonged in a midgame setting.

Another issue I see quite a bit is the plot hole. How does Cortana know all this? How do they know that's the Didact, even though it only says so in subtitles and he never specifically states it? How does Cortana know deactivating these objects will clear up comms? I know there are valid reasons for why they know these things, such as data over feeds, but the source of all this info is never specified, the info is just stated as fact.

The last issue that I personally find is that you seem to run out of ammo, a lot. In a single firefight I could easily end up going from full clips to no ammo in either weapon. I can't tell if enemies take more ammo to take down, of if weapons fire faster, or just lack of ambient ammo, but it disrupts the pacing when you are constantly looking for another weapon because both of your current weapons are out of ammo.

Now, as far as pro's go for the campaign, I loved what they did with Master Chief as a character. before he was a silent individual, but now they really show that he has humanity, they there is a person under the helmet. I also like how they leak information about the Forerunners and ancient Humans. Ultimately the story they told, I enjoyed. Even if it had flaws, and its presentation was rushed, I found it exciting.

Another pro I found, was how smooth the controls were. Everything felt right. You felt like you were a super soldier in a half ton suit of armor, yet were incredibly mobile. There was a certain grace and fluidity in the movements that felt perfect.

Who is the real juju? O.O
I don't know anymore :(
Me neither. Am I even real? D:

No, you're just a robot we programmed with the juju_ emu and sent back in time. The techno geeks who made you were huge movie buffs and ancient Greece fans, hence why you have the Leonidas beard.

Makes perfect sense if you don't think about it..

Edit: It should also be noted we included WFRNG in your programming, hence the random stuff :P

As of Yesterday (or maybe two days ago), Omnimaga now has the highest amount of posts of any existing calculator forum, even the yAronet 68K board. May the 300K milestone that was broken a few months ago not be the last. (like what happened to too many boards after a 100K post chunk milestone).

Also if Omni ever hits 500K, Netham45 will be eligible for Big Forum Operator membership on Simplemachines support board (with access to an extra section on their site), and be able to submit his site there.

Now that would be quite something. :D

Hopefully we can hit that milestone soon without becoming spammy with our posts.
