Ah ok, I didn't understand he was talking about a background in the menu. I thought he was talking about an ingame background :P

Wow Augs, Nice building here

* annoyingcalc hugs Chockosta BEST NSPIRE PROJECT EVER!

you should make it like minecraft alpha, with the backgrounds having dirt blocks and have an option for 10 worlds
Thanks for the support :D
A "dirt" background would indeed look nice.
What is a "dirt background" ? ???

Also, I had some suggestions:
-change the order of the menu options: put "load" first and "new" in second, because we only need to choose "new" once and then, we always choose "load" ;)
-for now, quitting always save, but a way to quit without saving would be great too :) (other than a reboot)
-The first one is a good idea indeed
-Would a shortcut like shift+esc to quit without saving be okay ?
Yes, shift+esc for example.
Or you can do "esc" to save and quit, and "del" to quit without saving.
Or "lib" to save, and "esc" to quit so we can save, quit without saving and quit after saving.
As you wish :)

To avoid saving wrong stuff on your world, I guess you could maybe duplicate it before running the game and rename your backup copy in case.
You mean like Axe Parser backups ?
It would take twice as much memory, and it would add a loading time before starting to play...
This could be a good idea too, but isn't Hayleia idea sufficient ? (An option to quit without saving)
Well, if you add my idea and the support for several savegames, the backup idea would not be very useful ;)
Moreover, I think that DJ_O was not talking about a feature to add to the game but more giving advice to users. At least, this is how I understood him.

I think you didn't quite have enough RAM free; if the program file & the data file are both located in Archive mem, you need about 22KB of free RAM. This includes the program file being copied to RAM, the data file being copied to RAM, plus 3.2KB for decompression of the levels. So you want to avoid having unneccessary files in RAM, such as the Ion install files, etc.

I'd say maybe that's why it worked on the 83+, perhaps you had a little more free RAM?

Glad you got it working somehow though :)
Lol, Ion install files :P
Why would I need Ion install files if I have zStart ? It includes Ion libs and automatically reinstalls itself after a RAM Clear.
And I have nothing in my RAM. Everything is in Archive. But as Chickendude said, I have a lot of files (appvars, programs, etc) so I have a lot of entries in the VAT. Even right after a RAM Clear I only get 21207 bytes of RAM.

But yeah, on my 83+, as there is almost nothing on it, I have more than 23000 bytes of free RAM :D

edit I got an idea *.*
Since your program approximately takes 16000 bytes but less than 16384, why not compiling it as an app so there is a lot of free RAM ? :D

Another thing you could try is downloading the TI-83+/84+ Ion version and using that with zStart. My Ion version doesn't call any external library functions, they're all built into the game code (which I had to do as I was breaking the 8.8KB code limit with Ion). If that still doesn't work, feel free to let me know and I'll see what else I can do :)
That still doesn't work :(
I tried with zStart absorbing MirageOS, with zStart alone (it has the Ion libs built in) and with MirageOS (with zStart completely uninstalled and a RAM Clear made), the Ion version still says that the file is missing even though I have it :(
And I checked, I have more than 21000 bytes of free RAM so even when the program runs, it has the requiered 3200 bytes to run.
Maybe this is due to fact I have too much things on my calc and your game doesn't manage to reach the file ? ???

edit: it runs fine on my 83+ that only has zStart :)

Wow this looks nice. Haven't tried it yet on calc but I just finally saw the screenshots on the first page. I hope you finish it. It would be the world's first non-BASIC GH clone ever finished for calcs. :P (not sure why every GH project die)
Thanks :D
And I think they all die because one day they understand how hard sound is :P
If you want to try it, don't use the editor. It is the thing that has most problems with RAM corruption.
(And for now, the sound doesn't match the song. The timing is good but the played note is wrong)

The world is saved each time you quit the game. The save file is quite heavy (800 KB) but its size could be reduced by more than half with a good compression.
The problem I see with compression is that loading and saving will take more time. Anyway, 800 KB is not heavy at all by the way. I see you don't play The Urbz (more than 20 MB) ;)

Also, I had some suggestions:
-change the order of the menu options: put "load" first and "new" in second, because we only need to choose "new" once and then, we always choose "load" ;)

I have problems running it. I run it with zStart, with MirageOS absorbed but then it says that the ZAB5E1F1 file is missing even though I have it in my archive ???
That sucks... I'm not very familiar with zStart, so I'll download it and try it myself and see what I can find. Does the game work if you run it directly through MirageOS or DoorsCS?
I completely uninstalled zStart (even the "run on RAM Clear" option), made a RAM Clear and ran AB5M through MirageOS and it still tells me "File ZAB5E1F1 missing" :-\
I haven't tried with DoorsCS. It's been a while since I removed it from my calc.

Try enetering mirage and then running the game again via zstart, i was having always some problem running through a shell with zstart with certain versions
That didn't work either :-\

I'll try on my 83+ if it works there :)

New version !
You now can save your progress :)
Hehe, this is why I didn't disconnect. When I saw Levak answered you, I thought "the update is for tonight" :P
Awesome work as always, downloading right now (yay ! I can finally build my house without fearing to lose it :w00t:)

It did interest me. It would be nice if you could work on this in your free time. If you don't mind, of course.
Ok then. But don't expect updates regularly ;)

If you're having trouble with the VAT browser, just post it, maybe I'll can fix it since I did a part of it ;)
In fact, strange appvars appear and when I try to save the currently updated song, sometimes it is not saved where it should. I think I let a ClrDraw(L1) somewhere that kills some pointers :P

Has there been any updates lately? Probably not, but I'm just curious.
No. I was having trouble with the VAT browser (RAM corruption) and didn't know where this came from :-\
But was this project interesting you ? I only coded this because I was getting bored and I thought other people didn't care either. But when I get time, I can pick this up again if that interested you :) (but that will be in a long time, like in summer holidays -.-°)

As I said, for now it's only for non-CX calcs -> no colors D:
But can't you use the function that looks like "lcd_ingray" (I don't code in C for Nspire so I don't know the exact formulation of the fucntion :P) to make it work on both calcs ?
In fact I don't even know what that command would do but I feel like this would work :P

General Calculator Help / Re: Need help with gpSP-Nspire

I have ndless v3.1 on my calculator.
In fact he didn't mean "version" but revision ;)
Of course you have Ndless 3.1 since gpSP only runs on CX and the 3.1 is the only version of Ndless running on CXes. Here are all the revisions of Ndless 3.1. Try to upgrade to the last one and try gpSP again :)

2010
I have to comment though, I don't think it works that well on the majority of calculators. Basically this method is the same as your method thepenguin77, except it uses the 560/512Hz first hardware timer interrupt instead of a 10922Hz crystal timer interrupt. Tuning this is about 20x rougher, so it's really just luck if one tuning setting looks close to perfect.
Yes, of course my method doesn't give perfect greyscale. I only get this on my two calcs but my sister's calc doesn't have this beautiful glitch line (it has several of them if you see what I mean :P)
The real advantage of my method though is that the grey is constant (I mean that if you go from a loop to another, there is no "no grey" time) and that you can get acceptable grey even in 6 MHz :)
