Miscellaneous / Re: Rubik's Cube

And now you'll discover that there is a lie you always believed: "there is only one solution to the rubik's cube". This is true for your pony cube but not for "regular" cubes because the centers can in fact be rotated from one solution to another.

I hope the battery of the Note 3 is a bit better than one hour.
This depends on your usage of the phone.
  • it once lasted two days when I just had it turned on in my pocket in airplane mode
  • it once lasted one day when I just had it turned on in my pocket in airplane mode, but with some stupid apps I installed that were running in the background
  • it once lasted <i don't know how many exactly, but not a number higher than 4> hours when I was playing games.

TI-BASIC / Re: Why aren't there so many programs using the dcs gui lib?
« on: December 24, 2013, 03:02:27 am »
Note that all those arguments I (and others) used don't apply to the CSE because
  • There is enough space to put DoorsCS three times and still have space for programs
  • It's the only available shell for now so no one has another one (maybe people don't have it but just state that in the readme)
  • There is no annoying mouse
  • There is no zStart (thepenguin77, if you read this... :P jk, I know you already talked about that)

And I also found another argument why there are not so many programs using that GUI. Just because DoorsCS is "new". Well, it is not recent, but still the latest shell (zStart is not only a shell) so it is normal that a lot of programs, especially those made before it arrived, were made without using its GUI.

I have a Note 3 myself. I was worried about the region lock too, but it seems like the phone is only locked when first using it. I mean that you can't power it on for the first time with a SIM that doesn't come from the same country. But once unlocked, you can swap SIMs as you wish. You can check that on the internet, but that's what I remember.

And if you want "the" Note 3, well you still have the SnapDragon/Exynos choice. You have two versions of the Note 3, one having a 4-core and 4G, the second one having a 8-core and no 4G. But the 8-core has a lowered frequence and the processor is quite new, so you don't gain much. I have the 4G version (and GTA San Andreas still runs ! :P).

Other than that, it depends on what you want to do with your phone. If you want to play games (like GTA San Andreas :P), take the latest one but if you mostly want a phone for "phone usage" (but with a big touchscreen), take the Note 1 and save money :)

Now about rooting. It is true that there is a new "protection" (KNOX), but you have a rooting method (Root De la Vega) that doesn't increase the KNOX counter, so you don't have to worry about that. Also, the only thing that counter does is saying "you messed up with software", but if it's the hardware that fails, the warranty still has value (at least in France). Check on the internet which versions that rooting method supports before buying ;)
And I never used any warranty on anything so I just didn't care and rooted my phone as soon as I got it, incrementing that flag once and for all :P
The other thing that rooting without caring kills are the OTA updates. Since I did that, they are no longer proposed to me (but I don't care, I can find them on the internet). I don't know if the Root De la Vega solves that, you should see on the internet too :)

Anyway, I never regretted anything with that phone :)

I don't see where I stated that I would recode all the functions that the GUI offers in 1000 bytes. Of course my program would be limited to the functions I need. But I don't even think that would be a problem because I personally think (and it seems that aeTIos thinks that too) that the mouse is beautiful but annoying. And with a lot of simplifications (like no windows on top of others (so no complicated stack system), which "never" happens in a program anyway or you only have 2 of them and you can find a workaround (like a simple RecallPic)), yeah, I can have my GUI (and once again, not the real GUI) in less than 1000 bytes.

It is the same reason why I use zStart, not because it does all what DoorsCS do, just that it does what I need in less space (and does it faster), and no more.

Gaming Discussion / Re: Best Assassins Creed game
« on: December 23, 2013, 10:45:45 am »
I only played the last three of the series, and the one I prefered among those was Revelations. The city was perfect for Ezio to jump everywhere, and you had really useful weapons like bombs or Axes that you could throw (plus the fact you were able to kill passants :P).
III had a really good story and a really long life, but that was all, the city had too large street to enjoy jumping on buildings.
IV is a really good game... for a Pirates of Caribbean game. It has interesting cities but you spend 70% of your time on your ship. And it has a very short life.

i know i said this earlier but i can use dcs alongside zstart just fine
maybe you should change some of zstarts settings?
I know that, but it is not the problem. I just don't want to "waste" 49152 bytes for a GUI that I could (re)code in my programs for less than 1000 bytes. Moreover, using DoorsCS would prevent my friends from using my program due to the lack of memory (they don't have the new 83+.fr USB).

  • DoorsCS is (was) too big for French people with a regular 83+ (160KB of Flash, with 16KB taken by French language and 16KB taken by the Periodic table, you can guess that DoorsCS is (was) hard to fit in with some programs)
  • A lot of people read readmes where it's written "Ion compatible shell", then download Ion
  • A lot of people read readmes where it's written "Ion compatible shell like MirageOS", then download MirageOS
  • A lot of people don't read readmes where it's written "needs DoorsCS for the GUI" and will just think "dat game sux" and review it bad so coders try to avoid dependancies
  • And that last argument is only my opinion but I prefer zStart to DoorsCS so I use it instead, and that prevents me from using DoorsCS's GUI.

Casio Calculators / Re: Open Jazz jackrabbit Casio prizm port

Wow, just tried this, it has a huge potential :D

Don't know if there are many bugs (my batteries were low :P), but there's something that struck me. You've put too much frameskip in my opinion. The game runs too fast and not that smooth (the bullet just shows there, then there then is offscreen), and I really think that with less frameskip it would be smoother and more enjoyable :)

Great work so far anyway :D

True, but I still agree that the screenshot was very long and repetitive at the beginning. Of course seeing the editor in action is great, but just show 10 seconds of it on an almost finished map then show the movement on it during ten seconds too :)

Nice progress anyway :D

TI Z80 / Re: [TI 84] Escape (Demo)
« on: December 21, 2013, 02:12:07 pm »
Yeah, I am going to be annoying about this again :P

"TI 84" doesn't exist. There is always a "Plus" or a "Pocket", sometimes followed by ".fr" or "SE", and now even CSE. The CSE being incompatible with the others, it can be a good thing to make the difference between those models, so maybe you should add in your title "except CSE". And if you think "people can make the difference", then look at this topic where someone asks help for a SE while he has a CSE, and even when someone asks "do you have color" he still doesn't precise the color fact and keeps saying "SE" instead of "CSE".

Second thing, I don't know how you coded this game, but if you didn't use the 15MHz mode, it is in fact compatible with the 83+ too, so "TI 84" is even more wrong. The correct thing to say would be "monochrome z80 calcs with Flash memory", but that is not so clear I agree :P
So just "83+/84 (non CSE)" is okay I guess.

I don't know if it is any faster (I use that Axiom but never have programs where Text commands eat a lot of time) but Jacobly wrote an Axiom to have more flexibility with text commands. It might be faster since it doesn't use TI's routines.

TI Z80 / Re: zStart - an app that runs on ram clears

I don't think it is your fault actually for once (jk :P). When I tried with TI Boy, I didn't have zStart installed on my calc (I didn't know about it yet). I think it is TI who did weird things in TI Connect as usual.

I would have preferred the T-shirt over the TI83+. You can't get a tshirt like that anywhere else. You can pick up a used 83+ for the same price as the tshirt after all :)
Well you can order the t shirt whenever you want, but you can't (at least in France) easily find a 83+SE.

That hook was ported to the CSE so I guess they work the same way or another but they work.
