That sounds really cool!
Let me know when/what you want me to work on.

Well, one person should work on the main menu/lobby, the other should work on the game engine (which, I feel, is only SLIGHTLY more complicated), and neither person should feel rushed ::)  Ztrumpet, I think you requested the main menu/lobby, so if ProphetsDementia is fine with working on the game engine, I don't see why you can't do the main menu/lobby.

Part of the reason we're waiting until next week is I need some major time to get the graphics together, as well as designing some new ones (such as tiles).  (Besides, I feel that you and Prophets should recieve some "payment"--aka a project build--in advance, and it will be done before we start.)

Sadly, the "space" tile set is not going to be used in the turn-based version.

The storyline just takes forever to plan.

I know how you feel.  I thought of the storyline for S.A.D. about 5 years ago (no kidding), wrote the entire script out, and it's STILL going under lots of major revisions.

Looks like I'll be writing the AI as an asm program to be run as a ti-basic subprogram.  Not only will it mean I have the AI for the RTS AI almost completely finished, but it also means people can't fiddle with the AI to guess its secrets.

GLORY...awesome!

Excellent!!  I love it! ;D

How many parts will there be total?

Who knows?  I'm thinking about 3 or 4, but the last two or so aren't going to be as detailed.  Since this is supposed to describe and focus on how humans encountered and formed relationships/enemies with the Tosonians and the Ptaloids, part of my difficulty is avoiding telling too much of the children's story.

Of Mankind, the Ptaloids and the Tosonians (Part II)

...But Ryan did not heed this warning.  Despite Jamie's pleaing and her efforts to convince him that she had no "special" interest in Collin, he grew envious and finally left the group altogether.  Turning to revenge and his own selfish interests, he secretly led Captain Jackson Lee (and the men he brought with him) to the location of the children's campout, although only Jamie was there at the moment.  She was, of course, kidnapped, as Lee knew that simply by being on the planet, she had seen too much.

Still believing that Jamie had a crush on Collin, it was Ryan's goal to rescue her and win her over once and for all.  Unable to do it by himself, however, he asked Collin and Megan for help, just until he reached a point where he was quite capable of handling the situation alone.  Knocking Collin and Megan unconcious, he took the rest of the rescue into his own hands.  It was the last mistake he would ever make, as he was captured by a security bot.

Waking up and realizing that Ryan was gone, both Collin and Megan suspected that he was responsible for their dillema, though they had no knowledge of his being abducted.  Their suspecisions and the situation required that they ignore whatever happened to Ryan, and instead they worked to free Jamie.

Back in her cell, Jamie learned the true nature of Lee's plans.  Although the Ptaloids had promised him a ruling position over Earth, they discovered his craving for power and realized that it would be a deadly mistake to have him as a leader over the planet.  Knowing his bargin was on the brink of being forfeited, Lee took over the research and production station centers, which cost the lives of hundreds of Ptaloids.  It was his goal to use his acquired assets to finish the task of the Ptaloids, but for his own gain.

Collin and Megan were successful at freeing Jamie, along with another captive named Hope. Finally noticing that Ryan was himself a captive, they sadfully but forgiveably left him behind, concerned that he would further hinder things for them.  The children narrowly escaped in a hovercraft as Lee attempted to lock them inside.

Knowing that Megan and Jamie needed time to recover from what Ryan had become, Collin guided the hovercraft back to the Tosonians who, despite their power, could not restore Ryan.  Jasilin shared in their sorrow, but encouraged them that their new member, Hope, would prove to be a valuable asset.  After regaining their strength, the children continued their journey to retrieve the rest of their materials, one of them being sulfur for fueling purposes.

Not unexpectedly, the only place to get sulfer was in an underground volcanic region, inhabited by intelligent, insanly wicked creatures that neither the Ptaloids nor the Tosonians were able to exterminate.  A pure example of one region that the Tosonians considered forbidden for the likes of themselves.  Unknown to the children, Lee had successfully affected the mind of the king of the region, a dragon (known to the monsters of the region as "Carbor Bol"), ordering him--out of sure insanity--to eliminate the children by any means possible to keep his secret safe.

Hope was able to translate the language of these demonic monsters, and the plot for their extermination was discovered as the creatures evacuated the underground region to search for the children.  This meant the only thing blocking the sulfur was Carbol Bol himself. As soon as he discovered the children were after sulfur, he, with evil laughter, revealed his "orders" and battled the children, who had gained a lot of combat experience from their search for the materials.  After a fierce battle, they were able to destroy Carbol Bol (and his death meant all the other creatures of the region died instantly as well), but at a heavy cost, the death of Collin.  (TO BE CONTINUED)

Take care of yourself, Builderboy   :-\  Glad the project isn't dead

Hey, ztrumpet, Prophets is hoping to be ready this Saturday, and I'm hoping to be ready sometime next week.  Is next week going to cause any issues for you?

Question: can the character jump?  Or is up-and-down motion treated as if this were a four-direction scrolling game (like an RPG)?

Oh wait i misread, I totally missed the "before a demo" x.x part. I should prbly have read the post a few more times x.x I have reading comprehension issues, so my apologies for that. I understand about the testing part.  You don't want to do like Texas Instruments with their OSes after all (or Jester Interactive with their softwares, altough the MTVMG is still awesome)

No, you read it right the first time.  I saw that some voted -1 for me, so I edited the post, realizing that what I said came out wrong

Aaah ok, well the way you are talking I hope you aren't planning to make the final version only for volunteers either x.x, but again I would understand having demos only to reward people helping on the project.

The demo will be for everyone, including on ticalc.org.  The testing is to take care of potential balance issues, because I want to make sure that those playing the demo have a well-balanced game.  I honestly did not mean to sound like the game had a lot of restrictions as to who could play what, and I apologize for the tone that may have been felt.  Those who know me know that attitude is just not like me.

Nice to hear! Will you have screenies too?

Definitely

And I wonder if there will be another alpha eventually (or beta) in the future that will be avaliable for everyone?

Somewhat...there will be a beta for volunteers, before a demo for everybody is released--anyone can volunteer for the beta if they're willing to put in the 10 hours a week, more on that later

Umm, hot_Dog, once you give me the appvar format, do you think i can have a copy too, to make sure the saved appvars work?

Deal.  :) But we're not working on that part for a while.  In the meantime, cooliojazz, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we consider you part of the team for working on the computer application(s)...if you want the builds that ztrumpet and Prophets are recieving, that's certainly fine by me  :D

Good news: my finals are done, so I'll be continuing work on displaying buildings on the tilemap, and it should be done by next week.

Ztrumpet and Prophets, this will be the first pre-alpha build I'll give to you guys because of helping me with the turn-based S.A.D.  Of course, this implies that you don't share it with anyone.

You are speaking to the #3 (if not greater) trekkie fan on this site.  I am SO eager to see this game and play it

For linking you either need to have the game Pause a lot or use an Asm program. =\

I'm not very familiar with the calculator's Ti-Basic link commands.  How slow are these in sending, say, 2 real numbers A and B?

EDIT: Never mind, I think I'll probably end up making this two-people-on-one-calculator
