"As for now, the most viewed forum topic is Nyaar RPG progress thread with over 9000 views"
Sorry. I had to say it.

Congrats on the new milestone set by teh community. Or sorta. Does the count include or exclude bots such as those put out by Google to scan teh forums? If excluding, that's pretty amazing. If including, I'd want to know how many times a day these things scan the forums.
I think it would be pretty interesting if there was a breakdown on *who* was the largest contributers to this new milestone.

There were some empty spots in the tileset below 127, so I told him that he could use tiles up to 127, but he neglected to count starting at zero, so he thought he could only have 127, when I needed no more than 128. The edit he did just added a tile and updated a couple of the maps to use that extra tile. Previously, it was another tile because he thought there just wasn't enough space to do it.
The tileset, uncompressed, still takes up 8K by itself. Around 6KB compressed.
And as far as "windowing", he just wanted it to make it clear to the player that the textboxes are "windows" instead of just cheap-ass rendering things stuck at the far edges of the maps. I haven't written anything that would demonstrate it, but the system that I've written can be easily changed to accommodate what Zera wants. The text itself remains the same. It's just the "box" that it goes in. What is being talked about is the box. I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear. I was kinda sleepy when I made that last post. I still *am* sleepy >.<
I like Nethams. It's all lobstery goodness. When the lobster bisque is done, maybe we can talk about how I should reverse the order of my response since it doesn't correspond to the questions you've put forth. Or... enjoy the lobstery goodness. It's all up to you. All you gotta do is choose your favorite wine, and we're all set. ^_^
(wow. That's offtopic )

It would probably cost them more to change the assembly to remove that extra RAM, since it's all on the same chip as the microprocessor and just about everything else except Flash.
If it costs them more money than they need, they won't do it. Simple as that.

I'd like a sig, but that's if you're willing to go off on ...whatever.
In your mind, think of a red dragon with a peculiar "flavoring" associated with it. Happily ripping apart farm animals and then having those chunks delicately sautéed, then slathered in a sweet and sour sauce. The flavor is savored for as long as it takes for the farmers to notice what has happened to their animals, which takes a while since they're all out to market. When they get back, they have a hard time trying to figure out whether they should attempt to slay said dragon, or accept the offer to partake in the meal prepared by such a beast. A gentle"man" in some respects. Likes RAWR-ing atta random peoples. Magic? Can do every bit of it except getting a computer keyboard to float. I don't know what's up with those things, but they seem resistant to any levitation thingies put on it. Personality always has a seriousness in the undertone, but is sometimes random. My color is red, but I do enjoy a mix of blue as well. Who knows? I prefer darker colors.
What I described isn't what's going in, but it's the general *feel* of what I'd like. That's more important, and I'd love to see what you can come up with based on the feel of a description rather than the physical description of the object itself.
But if you really want something concrete, it should have a bottle of sweet and sour sauce in it. Slightly cherry-flavored.

If you knew ASM and had a project that needed it, you could write a program that would take advantage of all that RAM. But I suppose that's not the question being asked.
One of the problems of a new OS that claims compatibility with old programs and yet has support for that extra RAM would have problems choking down projects that use that extra RAM as saferam. A big offender? Omnicalc and its RAM recovery function.
As far as ASM programs go, you just extend the mapping for known RAM pages to map all 8 of these pages.

No new screenshots, but I will explain what I've done in the meantime, and what still needs to be done at the moment.
I've been having problems writing a masked unaligned sprite routine. The mask is being extracted from the dark gray layer. I've written some logic that I hope will work out, but the whole thing needs to be put together in such a way that something can be demonstrated. At least enough to replace the "dedicated black box" with something nicer.
I've added in an scrolling intro thingie for "New Game". That's to kick off the events leading up to you being able to gain control of your character at some point after the opening sequences. A screenshot will be released only when I get up to that down. If you're on IRC, you may get to see preliminary screenies.
Also, the format of the textboxes are also going to be changed. Slightly smaller to take advantage of the windowing effect that the text system uses. Other stuff, I'm still discussing.
Also, I updated some of the maps to make use of an extra tile that remained unused (tile 127). The effect sets some maps apart from the others, so there will be some variety in the game.
Uhm. I feel like I'm forgetting something.

Some things just aren't meant to be taken seriously. Netham's story will be about the loss of his pizza during a raid, so he goes to war with that in mind. The cube... well, how about a sentient computer-cube device that goes to war based on its own best interests. An extra character, really.
I haven't really come up with a story quite yet, but I'll have it open-ended such that anyone can participate. Your characters can be about as non-realistic as you want it to be. Nothing is really going to be taken seriously, even though the story itself might be. Sure, even some of the bosses might call you out on it, but let's get "real", however far that term might go in such a game.

Welcome, uh... newcomer with an oddly high post count. We hope you enjoy your stay and be sure to respect the rules. Now, I'd love to serve a little lobster bisque to everyone here, but the Netham is proving very difficult to find >.<
Interesting rickroll. Had to stop Chrome from loading the page. Relatively slow in redirecting, so I found it easy to hit ESC to stop it from loading.
Anyway. Welcome! Have peanuts and delicious lobster. The lobster IS DELICIOUS, therefore, YOU MUST EAT IT.

Edit notices don't appear until some substantial time after the first post was made, or if someone else has seen that post. I've gotten away with a few of those if I've edited very shortly after creating the post.

Alright. I neglected to mention that the template is as follows, considering that all images are monochrome.
The top left part is a 32x32 "portrait" of your character, which will be displayed during character to NPC (usually bosses) dialog. The top-right corner is the 8x8 sprite that will be displayed during gameplay. The two boxes are spellcard names, 10 pixels high by 64 pixels wide, using the frame provided. The upper spellcard name is activated by hitting the bomb button, while the lower one is activated by holding the "focus" button while hitting the bomb button.
I hope this clears up some confusion. This information wasn't posted with the original post because at the time it was posted, the game was fresh and I expected everyone to have played the game at least once, so they'd know what each component of the image is for.
Also, I'd like to ask for any background stories that might go with the characters. This helps formulate a story that fits their personality or whatever.

Even though I'm not exactly working on the project at the moment, sure. I'm still taking entries.

Looking pretty good. Now, if only I had that privilege when I tried to make my own maps. Too bad I didn't have Celtic III when I tried >.<

I guess there's no better time than to break it now.
calc84maniac is starting work on an 8 level grayscale version of Chip's Challenge.
Personally, I can't understand how he's doing it, but oh, well. He's doing it.
