Art / Userbar Size - 350x19 or 350x20 pixels
« on: February 17, 2011, 04:56:00 am »
Now i was wondering what userbar size everyone uses. userbars.com says 350 x 19 which sounds official to me. but http://userbars.removedfromgame.com uses 350 x 20.
My opinion is with 350 x 19.

I like it how mine is all nice and customised to suit me because the previous one did not look good at all on some website i tried.
(of course it's more work.)
ooh that website http://userbars.removedfromgame.com/ says it is 350 x 20 px. Hmmmm

found this website which has a debate about this.

Aah i was just about to post an update on it. Well Im very very proud to say that i created it from scratch!!! First i downloaded 'visitor font' from abstractfonts.com which is the official userbars font, then i just left my old version on my sig there for a while. yester and today i began creating my new one! i am glad you all like it very much! I really did make it from scratch! here's some more details:

i went to this website userbars.com
even though i couldn't get to the designer i found this page:
http://designer.userbars.com/overview.php
really helpful as it showed all the layers. immediately i thought of a plan, i remember seeing a tut on how to make userbars in photoshop, when i opened it up and tried, i got as far as setting the canvas to 350 x 19 px. i couldn't even choose the colour of the gradient for my background!

so i went to the trusty Paint.NET. Now i realise that it has many good features that are in photoshop too but in paint.net it's much simpler to use!!! started with 1 layer the gradient, added a bluespot layer - it's hardly visible because most of it's hidden by the logo, then i wondered how to get a cross line diagonal pattern layer. i managed by getting a grey colour and setting the alpha to around 112, wow it worked perfectly. The text took a little fidgeting, so i got larger text and made it black but with a grey brick (or was it 80% black?) pattern (it's a bit hard to see, so it's easy to read not like most userbars with tiny text. The gloss then was quite hard. you had to draw an ellipse that was equal on both sides and made a nice curve. i was surprised that i managed to get it so well, it may not be exact (if there is a standardised size for the gloss) but looks professional. i eventually settled for grey with 112 alpha, but wait! it was too dark! it was white, with 90 alpha that did the trick. it may not be exact but close enough. Finally the logo which went underneath the text and gloss layers. it was a big 256x256 icon and all i did was position it and re-set the canvas size to 350 x 19. Walala!!!! Job done magnifique! (sorry for the broken use of European languages! lol!) And now i have a big BIG smile on my face because i'm glad you all say it's great! the previous one was from a website with an automated creator and had dodgy text. So there's a short guide to how i made it and proof in the screenshot! maybe i should write a more detailed tutorial for people who need it.

Remember created all with Paint.NET! (except for the logo which was created in PowerPoint) actually powerpoint is great for creating icons. but not when it comes to userbars since they have to be a specific ratio of 350 x 19.

Enjoy everyone!

Great, this might be all good news, but TI has to do this. because the prizm came out they know they have to get down to business or Casio will take over and get all the spotlight. but worst of all.
1. Just dump the current TI-nspires. Stop supporting them, or just say modestly, it's an OK OS, don't need to improve much, our [TI's] focus is on this new calc in development. Great. (if you didn't get that i was saying it from TI's perspective)
2. and the price? can TI really charge $200 for it?

Well i think qazz42's teacher was just expecting more from the ti-nspire, not nearly as easy to use as the 84, my maths teacher says, that i have to tutor the whole class into how to calculate sigma.

But that's all my opinion

ooh. things like this can be hard to open, and can also snap if not careful, it will require some significant amount of force in the right direction

i meant that the computers don't allow any exes unconditionally

oops this is an old topic

General Calculator Help / TI-nspire BASIC - os2.1
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:09:32 am »
Right now i have been using OS2.1 on my nspire. Now that means all the games i produced are only going to work with OS2.1. This is a problem as many people are using OS2.0 and 2.1 is not recommended (except for chinese characters! ;)) So what can i do to convert the files from OS2.1 to OS2.0 so that they work? i haven't actually tried it on os 2.0...

Wait! using nspire_emu 041 i got os2.0 and apparently os2.0 files work with os2.1!!! Yes!!! I didn't know that! cool i can add this to my readme!!!

Progress has been made  - ndless for 2.0! I will try this soon. now if only the ti-nspire didn't use batteries so quickly.

How does this work?
It overwrites the english language file with an edited one.
You can find the original file at /phoenix/syst/locales/en/strings.res in the Nspire's file system.

Wow that's l33t!!! whoever did this is the l33t357's person 3v3r!

Could actually serve a useful function for adding other languages or something that are not already included on the nspire. and also to alter the menus! This could be a great development for creating a better TI-nspire OS!!! what do you all think?

PS: and as DJ_O said making the OS a better platform for programming!!! the next ndless!

And...are there any files in this NSpire?

This is a CAS+? well there might be, but you wouldn't be able to put any other files onto it because of the OS.

Just a suggestion: When no reply were made after your post and it has been under 6 hours, use the edit/modify/quick modify button to update your post so you don't double or even triple post.

:P
* apcalc threatens with some *unique* videos on the Nspire...
Hmm...porn on the Nspire? That would actually be interesting to see...

indeed

Well, it would be the perfect addition to the next ticalc.org CD! ;)
And the fastest possible way to get those calcs banned from school. :P
I thought we were trying to convince teachers that calc programming is good.  :P

That may've been a joke, it sounded like the quirky DJ personality. :D. Ok not exactly a joke but that down-to-business attitude that sets it straight.
Calc programming is good!!! but of course there are the dark stuff....
