TI-Nspire / Re: TI-Nspire emulator

that would be mighty useful, to extract what you had typed in a Notes app into a .txt file onto your computer. And vice versa.

CX feature filled emulators?
Oh I'm using Windows, so no need for Wine, but not sure what you're getting at with CX feature filled emulators.
goplat's requires boot1 to emulate CXes tho.

Necropost.
I don't know if there is much point in using xspire's nspire_emu with gtk (not Levak's, he made the batch files), due to the fact that the screen becomes grainy, and also that it is v026 and hasn't been updated much.
EDIT: Re tried it again after downloading new version of GTK runtime and it is grainy because I resized the window (it doesn't quite fit on a 1280x800 screen) and it is not grainy. However it only works for v026 and can't run OS 3.0

Yay woohoo!
Yeah, there definitely there should be a readme of some sort, especially with all the changes in 060, however Goplat just seems to provide us with the source code and executable only.
EDIT: At 1000 posts I think your tutorials get approved automatically. Otherwise an admin will do it for you.

Other Calculators / Re: The difference between a Port and a Clone
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:59:06 pm »
I agree with Builderboy, leafy and buttsfredkin that the terms are used interchangeably interestingly, and I thought so too just because I saw 'ports' of games everywhere around Omnimaga and other sites.

However, I wonder if there was a program that took the source code of an existing program and made a near copy, as alberthrocks said, but then changed it so much and added lots of new source code that it turned out to be quite different. Could it still be called a real 'port' then? Or is it something like a ported clone?

Other Calculators / The difference between a Port and a Clone

Hi Everyone,
I was talking to jimbauwens before about ports and clones (it started with the some 3D with ndless topic), and we have come up and agreed on definitions of port and clone, in case if anyone’s confused.

A port is a program that you mainly base it on the source code of another program (you have access to the source code)
A Clone is based on the idea or concept and can be from different or same platforms.

From calc84maniac:
if you're not using any assets from the original, it's classified as a remake, not a port
I guess a clone is pretty much something that copies the gameplay of an existing game, and isn't by the same developer

I would like to see what everyone else thinks about this! ;)
Now, Discussion Time!

Site Feedback and Questions / Re: Omnimaga SMF URL Syntax Guide
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:47:31 am »
I'm thinking of breaking it down as a combination/guide, by categorising the different types of arguments (board=, topic=, action= etc) and then listing all the possible commands for each.

after that is done, I may put a frequently used/common list for convenience at the top.

Also remember kevkid to Introduce Yourself in Omnimaga's special forum board for new members to say hello, can be found here:

TI-Nspire / Re: Some 3D with Ndless...
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:35:57 am »
Minecraft being written in Java cannot escape the fact that it cannot be independent of it. And therefore sometimes, the minecraft logo in the taskbar disappears and gets replaced with a Java icon (when it is frustratingly not responding), which IMHO, seems to 'cheapen' or make it look less polished as a game. But it's not like it's a big game release from a big company either.

820
Yeah I meant that, an OS independent of programs using the OS.
It would definitely give much more power to the user. But flexibility too.

821
That would be tricky overall, but it would be possible considering we've got ndless already manipulating the OS a bit. So effectively, we would be able to write a different OS (GUI) or shell?

Other Calculators / Re: gbc4nspire questions

Metal Gear Solid probably uses some function that delves outside the range of something that gbc4nspire can't accomodate. The second level, must be doing something.
Anyway, nice avatar you have mushmoom. It looks like the flash game Mike Shadow: I Paid for it.

Fruit Ninja / Re: Fruit Ninja
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:12:08 am »
It's a shame I can't really try it out for real. WabbitEmu just doesn't do it properly (unless if I were to remap most of the keys  to be next to each other on the keyboard), and I don't own a TI-84. The fruit graphics are juicy, though! ;D

General Calculator Help / Re: TI-NSpire Testing Woes
« on: March 02, 2012, 05:01:34 am »
You'll find all OS versions here: http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_list.php?id=OS%20Nspire&class=&order=&start=
necroposting. Has pretty much every os version (I think!) except for OS 1.1. TI went around rampaging telling calc sites to remove OS 1.1 due to ndless 1.1 at the time. But they can't really tell us to remove ALL OS versions now, can they?
Also the guide in the first post is for v053, which doesn't work anymore. I may write my own version, for 060, if i can.
