HP Calculators / Re: Let's hack the HP Prime!
« on: August 20, 2013, 04:24:38 pm »
I was just looking at the pcb and I saw some interesting labels:
SDA, SCK : A serial bus for hooking up the little orange pcb up to the main board. The connector has 6 pins, so I think it's SPI, but it could be I2C too.
UART RX, UART TX : Serial port. Not sure what that is used for in the calculator.
BUZZ100 : Can you hook up a speaker/buzzer?

That little orange pcb had a chip on it that says Novate(and then I cannot read the rest.) I think it is the touchscreen controller.
I googled a few options including Novatel which specializes in embedded wireless modules. Could anyone confirm what the text on the chip says?

I assume they are all beta testers?

Guidebook, firmware and linking software did leak last week on the HP FTP server and were quickly removed:

Come on, it can only have been done on purpose, IMHO!
BTW, has any you managed to get hold of the "HP-Connectivity Kit"? That would be really interesting. And also the booter code, of course!

Good news, nevertheless! ;)

Quite possible. Their time is more expensive than ours.

http://10fastfingers.com is nice too. Most of us here use it to compare their typing speed here. You just type a bunch of random words and based on the amount of characters you typed correctly it gives you the amount of words per minute on average.

Oh, I have not showed it here, but I was working on a wooden enclosure for the thing.

I posted it on my blog, but I was not sure if I put if on omni yet.

DJ requested this. I was bored and decided to make it :)

Effects used: scanline pattern, vertical color bar pattern, de-interlacing, ntsc colors, motion blur, about 4 layers of the same image slightly shifted relative to eachother. Original pixelart was made in paint.

Did the "emulator" come with a reset button on the back?

Congrats. I got up early to say that (also my sis needed to catch a flight and she couldn't keep it down :P)

Thanks. I am gonna search for a nice graphics engine to use. I learned the Spin interpreted language used by the propeller by looking at the library code. I am far from being able to write propeller ASM (short: PASM), but I think using someone elses graphics engine would do just fine.

And that tool obviously checks the os first.

And recovery mode takes firmware from a file on the calculator?

How do you update firmware on the calc? Do you use that menu for it or can you do it by hooking it up to the pc and click update firmware in some sort of update client program?

Interesting how both games are supposed to be completely different, but because both were published by konami it looks like they are from the same series.

Propeller chip running a demo program of it receiving and processing bytes from the eZ8 at 115200 baud. Haven't tested it at a higher rate yet. Video generation and serial is handled by cogs running ASM code. The processing of data is done by an interpreter, so that is a little bit slow. I have to put delay in between writes because of this. When I switch to all ASM that should not be a problem anymore.

Edit:This is composite video by the way.

Yeah. We might try to release a pcb for an eZ8 devboard ourself so you can just solder your own eZ8 on there.
