No, I'm keeping this turnbased on one screen. Also, I'm fine with a limited system, as long as the strategy you need to win is maxed out. Have you heard of pokemon's http://www.smogon.com/? These people have taken the game to such a high level of strategy; that's sort of what I'd like this to achieve someday. Yeah, this is probably coming from the fanboy side of me...

Maybe I am a total failure >.< at drawing in MS Paint, I mean -.- http://imageshack.usOkay, towns are circles, dungeons are squares, mountains are those hideous triangles, water is blue (forgot the ocean though), and there's a boat to take you to that island at the end. Purple paths signify the intended path the player is to make; I'm not sure if I'll make the entire island; probably not. The battle system has been brainstormed and I think I came up with something versatile and allowing for maximum strategy. In other words, a pokemon ripoff mostly. But I hope to dig deep into the workings of GM7 so this game could go online for multiplayer battling someday. That way the system is put to use ^_^. I'll be making spells for the next few weeks. I'm not stopping until I have at least 200. Then the hard part will be separating them all into spellbooks of 4 or 5 each, without letting any of them become too overpowered...

Or someone deleted the last post in that forum. Occam's Razor says it's most likely

Extra memory is always a good thing. If you can make this and figure out how to get past some of the negatives you listed, I would certainly use this

I found another way to waste time, sadly. Anyone here ever try http://www.i-doser.com/? It's a binaural beat program that supposedly trances you into various recreational drug effects But I'm not a total failure. I'm making a map now.

If you're wondering why there have no updates or progress on thsi project, here's why:
Starting July 10th, this will become a multi-person thesis project for my masters degree (which I will have just after I turn 20, in two years), so I have the full backing of my college, both technology wise and on the funding field (all computers and software provided free of charge, no numbers supplied yet for funding, but it's looking like it could reach as much as $100K). I get a full team of developers, both student and faculty (most of whom have 20+ years experience in programming multiple languages). The school is also partnered with something like 25 corporations, ranging from Intel to Microsoft to the State of Utah, so I'm also looking into getting some funding and support from a few of them. |

Well, today I was going to try making some sprites for this. I ended up trying making sprites for WoM, then searched online for a spriting tutorial. First result told me that spriting was an artistic skill that couldn't be taught through a tutorial; how obvious it should have been to me... Then through another random chain of events, I ended up spending the last three hours watching random japanese episodes of Naruto on youtube...
Looks like I'm already thinking of new and creative ways of procrastinating working on this. Tomorrow I'll just focus on the story and characters. I can find sprites elsewhere.

>_< I knew I forgot something in that description... press space to advance from the title screen to the demo area... Also, WoM may not be as dead as I'm saying it is. Someone I know may start calc progging, and if he does I'll probably fall into my normal competitive self...

and neither is my will to program... in fact it's coming in full throttle again! Let me just say this: The War of Mmruda is about 95% dead on calculator format. I've instead resurrected it in the form of a fantasy fiction book series. The War may be over... but the Chronicles of Mmruda have only begun! *play dramatic music* So what am I now programming? I'm now working on the Game Maker 7 platform, and my first project will be a short RPG called 'The Destined'. http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/138554/demo1-exe.htmlAs you may notice (I don't see how you wouldn't...) it starts out with the logo for Magenta Lightning, the name of my new beginning programming group. No, we don't have a forum. Title: The Destined Genre: Turn based RPG Plot: In the land of Grodul, all was well until the wizard Breig came along. He threatened to enslave the world with his magic. Eventually he was defeated, but not before he had the chance to lay down a curse on the island continent. In one thousand years, all would be destroyed in one godly event. Now, humanity's time has expired. A wave of monstrous creatures has descended from the underworld to kill all. It seems nothing can stop the last stand of Breig. Nothing can stop The Destined...

Count me in! I'll help write the plot. But not dialogue... as the antisocial person that I am, any dialogue I write will suck
