nice ^^ I guess progress will be faster now :)smile.gif

Oh yes... Essentially, all the graphical portion of the menu selection code is complete for "Ready" and "Use" also. :woot:woot.gif

I have decided to go ahead with the original implementation for mixing spells.

Thanks for your input. :)smile.gif

Well, after nearly completing the Spell Mixing implementation, I have  changed my mind... for a good reason.

I realized that all item selections will need to be done via a menu system. This includes the following commands:

"Ready" - equip a member with weapon, armor, helmut, ring, and amulets
"Use" - use a potion, scroll, or a special item such as a pocket watch
"Mix" - mix spells of course

Now for the reason:

With slight modifications, I can use the "Stats" command (already implemented) that displays all items in the party's inventory. I can use this method to select any item in inventory. Hence, the "Stats" display can be used for dual purpose... and save some precious memory. Now, I don't have to create separate menus for everything. Don't worry, you will still be manually mixing the spell by selecting the spell and the required reagents.

I feel bummed out... I just wasted a weeks worth of work.  :(sad.gif

I also feel pretty good... Because this new method will save memory and time in the long run. :)smile.gif

Oh well... programming is always a learning experience.

Hey... that Z88DK C compiler looks pretty cool.

Maybe it is time I break out my old Sinclair ZX-81 (aka Timex Sinclair 1000). ;)wink.gif

Should I place that under "General C:"?? Or is C the same for calcs as it is pcs...?

I would probably place it under General C.

In general, C is the same for calcs as it is for PCs, however, some functionality may be missing to accomodate the limited platform.

Anything else I should put on there? I don't have a lot of stuff on C, so if you guys want to provide anything I don't have, please let me know.

Here is an excellent online resource for the C language.

Other Calculators / Small C Compiler for TI-83+

Very interesting find on Ticalc... A Small C Compiler for the TI-83+ calcs. This is very cool B)cool.gif

http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/380/38061.html

Has anyone tried this? If so, does it work well? We may need to think about starting a C programming tutorial topic. I could help.

I work at Lockheed Martin as an embedded software engineer. I program in C all day long (some C++ and ASM). C is a very good language to learn especially if you think you may want to get into embedded or driver programming. When time permits, I would encourage everyone to try this compiler out.

Any news for Ultima ?? :Pblah.gif

Lots of behind the scenes work going on right now.

Hmmmm..... let's see:

- Mixing spells is almost done.
- Reformatted more map data (reduced code size and speed increase)
- Rework the event loop (easier to read code, but more memory)
- Implemented automatic camera movement during combat (cool) B)cool.gif

Summer 2006 is still looking good. ;)wink.gif

Hang in there Spellshaper... I know exactly what you mean about school. My boss is starting to get on to me for not doing enough overtime. I guess that means I better start doing more overtime. :xscotch.gif

BTW Spellshaper, how did you come up name? It kind of reminds of a fantasy novel series called "The Death Gate Cycle" by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (7 books total). In the series, the main character, Haplo, performed magic spells by drawing them in the air (like shaping spells or... spellshaper).

Oh well... Good series! I highly recommend it!

I really enjoy seeing people programming for the "older" platforms such as the 82 and 85. Hopefully, porting from the 82 to the 83+ is not too hard.

Looks very impressive! :Dbiggrin.gif

I estimate Ultima V would cost about $90 in 1988 dollars.

Back then Ultimas came with multiple very nice manuals, a cloth map, some "collector" coins (or some other trinket). When you opened the box... you knew it was an Ultima game -- it was very cool. Unfortunately, I think this type of packaging went away beginning with Ultima VII.
