THE POST 13493732 QuoteBegin-art_of_camelot+27 Oct, 2007, 17:34 --> QUOTE (art_of_camelot @ 27 Oct, 2007, 17:34) | It is pretty amazing how many features this game has in it. This game is how old?, Early eighties? |
It's crazy isn't it? Ultima V cost $60 in 1988. It was the most expensive game on the market. If you account for inflation, it would cost about $100 today. O_O

THE POST 13493244 QuoteBegin-Liazon+27 Oct, 2007, 16:34 --> QUOTE (Liazon @ 27 Oct, 2007, 16:34) | interesting. so is clos just inside dungeons, or at night? |
Currently, I use a CLOS algorithm everywhere except combat maps.
There is also the Day & Night algorithm. When the sun goes down, so does your field of view. When you are underground (where the sun is not present) it is completely dark.
There is also the Light Point Source algorithm. Things like torches, lamps, candles, fireplaces, lava, etc will give off some amount of light. This will only be evident during the night or underground.

THE POST 13493102 This screenshot shows off my implementation of the CLOS algorithm. Toward the end of the screenshot, the player casts a spell for XRay vision -- which is basically just turns off the CLOS algorithm.

QuoteBegin-DJ Omnimaga+27 Oct, 2007, 8:34--> QUOTE (DJ Omnimaga @ 27 Oct, 2007, 8:34) | ok phew, the nickname and email address were so suspicious, and the fact a spambot under this exact name signed up here in the past... good to hear it is a real member because he posted Hello twice successfully to validate
I guess it's just a coincidence %) |
Try emailing him... An invalid email is grounds for removal.

THE POST 13491101 QuoteBegin-DJ Omnimaga+26 Oct, 2007, 0:08 --> QUOTE (DJ Omnimaga @ 26 Oct, 2007, 0:08) | what is this? o.o |
CLOS is an algorithm that determines whether or not your view is obstructed -- like a wall. You cannot see through a wall or a mountain.

THE POST 13491088 QuoteBegin-DJ Omnimaga+25 Oct, 2007, 23:40 --> QUOTE (DJ Omnimaga @ 25 Oct, 2007, 23:40) | ooh awesome, i'm glad to see rooms arent always walls surrounding you or just floor like in some other games I saw, at least it looks even more complex. I hated how for example in star ocean there was no obstacles on battle fields, just a terrain texture and a background image most of the time |
Thanks DJ. Combat maps have all of the same rules as the world map, town maps, and dungeon maps. There is only one exception: I disable the CLOS (clear line of sight) algorithm for the combat maps.

THE POST 13491084 Populating the enemy's treasure chest is now working. A chest will contain between 1 and 7 items. As the Avatar's level goes up, the chance of getting better items increases. You can keep these items or take them to the local pawn shop in exchange for cold hard cash. Here is a screenshot of combat on a bridge.

Let's hope that they are just having technical difficulties.
Could you imagine something like this happening to Ticalc?

QuoteBegin-patz2009+24 Oct, 2007, 17:54--> QUOTE (patz2009 @ 24 Oct, 2007, 17:54) | I'm not entirely "generating" the sudokus per-se, but more like scrambling it. |
Now that is a pretty clever idea! How do you adjust the difficulty level? : :

QuoteBegin-DJ Omnimaga+25 Oct, 2007, 8:01--> QUOTE (DJ Omnimaga @ 25 Oct, 2007, 8:01) | @Ranman Visual Studio 2005 != Visual Studio/Basic 6 the one I am looking for is the 1998 version, since this is in which my games were saved in. |

QuoteBegin-DJ Omnimaga+24 Oct, 2007, 23:53--> QUOTE (DJ Omnimaga @ 24 Oct, 2007, 23:53) | oh it's the beta now I see the catch
but having heard about people comments on their betas usually they aren't much worse than the final product so I'm sure it is quite reliable alerady.
I may stick to Visual Studio 6.0 (1998) tho, not sure yet, I'll think about it after freeing up some diskspace on my PC |
Well... You actually have a choice... On that page you can download the new beta of Visual Studios 2008 Express Edition or you can download the Visual Studio 2005 Express Edition (non Beta version).

I love VB 6.0 -- paid $65 for the student license back in 1999. Now... You can download the standard version free from Microsoft. Good luck on the game!
