Site Feedback and Questions / Re: Omnimaga saving act
« on: November 09, 2012, 06:19:01 pm »
You would have to get everybody who creates videos about calculator related things in on it. The main issue is that a lot of people who make the vidoes are also members/staff of other sites. They would be unlikely to want to put their vidoes on a channel advertising our site and not theirs. Also, some people can earn money off of youtube, so they would want to put their videos on their own channel and maximize their income.
Just wondering, how many or you people would be willing to let your videos be hosted on a new channel. If it were only one or two of you, then this wouldn’t be all that helpful.
But if it were more of you, then this would be good.
Also, would this be just for helpful calculator videos and new program videos, or all calculator videos, because 3 of the 6 videos on my channel are unhelpful, but somewhat interesting, calculator videos. And the video above isn’t exactly helpful, but it is hipster.
And probably none of us use YouTube for money, so I think if we had an omnimaga logo before each video, and then either your name or logo or nothing, and a link to your channel in the description, people would still get the respect or fame that they deserve.

A new channel would be total suicide I think, because most people who subscribed to mine would not be willing to resubscribe to a new channel. All the vids I uploaded under my xlibman account had 15000+ views, yet when I reuploaded them on my new channel, the view count resetted to 0 and I never ever got close to 1000 views for most of them.
I guess you’re right, although I don’t know how many of us get very many views.
It seems like when I look around for calculator videos, they mostly get only a few hundred views, may be a thousand possibly.
In my mind at least, it seems like putting a bunch of hundred to thousand view videos on one account would let others who watch one video to be exposed to all the rest of the videos.

I wonder, would it be good or possible to create a YouTube channel for all of the videos.
Currently, if somebody finds a calculator video on YouTube, they might subscribe and watch the other videos on that channel.
But they probably won’t find all of the other great calculator videos on YouTube.
So if all the videos were on one channel, and there are about one new one ever couple of days, but one each channel maybe every couple of weeks, any subscribers would get to see every video, instead of having to search for the different channels.

TI-BASIC / Re: Need help with my code...
« on: November 08, 2012, 10:08:33 pm »
Hi, and welcome to omnimaga, and one question, are you Portuguese or Brazilian, or another?

I don’t know what you think went wrong.
It worked perfectly for me, so good job.
I’ll admit the code is pretty ugly, but it works, and my code is never pretty either.

One thing I’ll suggest though, is that you allow for N to work as one of your guesses to immediately exit the game, because it was annoying to have to keep playing because I couldn’t exit.

(Hint: don't debate me on Politics or Religion a ton, and you'll be my friend!)
So, what are your political and religious views? ;) Just curious, I won't argue with you (and I hope no one else will), but if you feel comfortable I'm kinda interested in what your views are now that you've said not to debate with you on it hehe.
Religion: Atheist

Political: Conservative
That's an interesting combination. So as an atheist, are you socially conservative as well, or more like a libertarian (fiscally/governmentally conservative, but pro gay rights/choice/marijuana legalization)?
Not the marijuana legalization, but pretty much... I think that what you do is your business... I may not agree with what you do, but I won't stop you from things that are not seen as ethically wrong.

What's your definition of ethically wrong? And what do you think about politicians whose source of ethics come from religious ideas and push for things like pro-life and illegalization of samesex marriage because of religious doctrine? Sorry if I seem like I'm giving you the third degree here and also hijacking the thread, but I've never met an atheistic conservative lol (I live in a pretty blue state)
Hi pimathbrainiac! We've already met and spoken a bit. I'm sure you'll enjoy it here. :)

Also, those peanuts are raw I think...so you can boil them OR roast them! Win-win
It depends on what is meant by conservative. I tend to be conservative in that I favor small government and minimalistic government spending. However I am pro same sex marriage and I wouldn't care if marijuana was legalized. Abortion is a bit more difficult subject, as there are many different things to consider. I am also an atheist, so I suppose I could be described as an atheist who is politically conservative. However, my political views don't necessarily fall on one side or the other, so I guess you could say they are mixed (as I think many people are). I don't necessarily think atheistic religion and conservative political view are an odd combination, as long as you ignore the religious aspect that many seem to attach to being conservative. Politics is largely that, and while some may say they are x or y religion, many I'm sure are casually religious and just use the affiliation in accordance with how they think it will best benefit their political standing.
BTW... ethically wrong is like true crimes: vandalism and up

And fiscally/gov't conservative... more like a libertarian

So yeah, that's me
It’s nice that you didn’t start debating about politics or religion.

Having two blatant d-pads would imply that you're using them for more than navigation. Disguise them as something else, like the 4 arithmetic buttons, possibly.
Oh, so what were you planning to do with it?
I am annoyed that when using the touchpad on the nspire, I have to have my thumb all the way in the middle of the calc, and I can only use one thumb at a time.
Also, because the touchpad is also the d pad, it is slower to respond because it can’t know if you want the d pad or the touchpad.
My friends at school think the touchpad is so bad, and I was watching an unboxing video the other day, and the guy thought the touchpad wasn’t even turned on because it wasn’t responding.

412
I can kind of see how this could come in handy, though I would buy a casio and a nspire before I bought something like this
This would okay, and if you add the thumb stick and d pad it could still be somewhat handheld, however, I think that a short wide screen would be ugly and awkward.

And if you want know, what i have in mind today for packaging, that's this style :
http://news.cnet.com/i/bto/20090316/3350858119_bb70b3565a.jpg

( & no mouse & a numpad ).

And yes, it's a calculator :D
I’m sorry, but I just don’t a fold up DS-laptop is all the great of a design.
In my view, why do we get calculators? Me, to get a handheld that helps with math, or to get an ultimate math experience. The former uses a endheld, and the latter would be done with a handheld, tablet, or laptop.
Why get a calculator like that if you can get a laptop.
But to each their own.

I don't think having a removable qwerty keypad is a good idea, since people will rely on it for calculations and stumble in the exams. QWERTY isn't necessarily an ideal layout anyways, given that you're only using thumbs, and that we're not using typewriters anymore. (QWERTY was designed so that you would avoid typing on the same side as often, to prevent jamming keys. Hence, common sets like he, or, le, etc. would be on opposite sides of the keyboard.)

Plus, why is the keyboard on the bottom? That's terrible, ergonomically. While I appreciate the idea of having a separate qwerty keypad, even Alpha modifiers are better than that.
I use a QWERTY keyboard all the time, so I am a little better at it.
Also, since it was originally intended to stop typing on the same side, might it still be easier now, so that you can spread your fingers about.
And is it actually better to have it spread out amongst the keys? I thought that you would accidentally press the other keys too many times.

TI-Nspire / Re: TI-Nspire emulator

Just wondering, if I have the nspire emulator on the sdk, is there a way to open that without going to tools, emulator in the sdk?

& teachers won't see in it a game-boy, DS, PS VITA, whatever , if you don't play in front of them.
If I use my calc in class, the teachers see that as school work, but if you make it like a DS, they would probably think more like that is a laptop and you are ignoring them.

Personnaly, I disagree for the touchscreen : too breakable, and it would make the calc too close to a smartphone :/

I prefer the idea of a thumb stick and a D-pad on the other side.

we'll see ;)
The reason why I would like a thumb stick and d pad is because you can use both of your thumbs, relatively comfortably, rather than having one thumb awkwardly in the middle of the calculator.
Also, when you have a d pad and touchpad together, you can’t allow the touchpad to be too sensitive, or else it will move the cursor too much, so you have to resort to very slow responding touchpads.
I believe the thumb stick and d pad would allow the user the best way to respond what you want to the calculator, just third behind a touch screen and a mind reader.

I also thought maybe a way to include a nice qwerty keyboard and maybe try to make it exam acceptable would be a removable keyboard. Especially since 90% don’t use the nspire keyboard probably.

what will the calculators name be?

Lol, I named the files calcdulac

So I made a few pictures in paint, one with the detachable qwerty keyboard, one with a nondetachable qwerty keyboard, one with a possible side view, and one with a touchpad.

I don't have any drawer yet.
And nobody that is a doomday guy in blender.

I believe levak once made a made an nspire in blender, so he might be able to help you

Also, f you are going to have a touchscreen, I don’t think that you should have a touch pad. Also, I think a stylus would be very good, especially for precise points on the screen, and for drawing graphs from lines.

TI-Nspire / Re: Calling all Linux Kernel developers!

Do that, and if that doesn’t work, for some strange reason I think it might also help to send os 3.2, and then downgrade if it works again.

Hah.
Well, my picture wasn’t really weird I guess, but I thought it strange that it kinda resembled omnimaga and I kept Nspire stuff in it.

I believe you have to follow step one and change the partition on your flash drive.
I never got that to work.
If want to use a little bit of USB, just boot it from linuxloader2, and you can use a keyboard, but not a flash drive or video.

“Since the TI-92 Series and Voyage 200 feature a QWERTY keyboard they are not allowed on ACT, SAT, PSAT and AP exams.”
http://datamath.org/Graphing/TI-92PLUS.htm

So I don’t know about the IB or Praxis exams.
But the CAS would disqualify it from the IB exam.
