TI-Nspire / Re: nSpiKx - TI-Nspire emulator for Mac OS X (Cocoa)
« on: September 03, 2013, 11:36:57 am »
Please HELP ME !!! I've got the boot 1, boot 2 and OS 3.2, what I do now ?
Hi AnToX98,
nSpiKx's emulator setup is very similar to kArmTI's setup and also to nspire_emu's.
Basically you'll need:
   1. the 'boot1' and 'boot2' files, which you get from your calc with the 'polydumper' utility.
   2. the TI-OS flash file (you can download either from TI or TI-Planet)
   3. read the first kArmTI Quick Start guide.
I would suggest you spend sometime reading the kArmTI's available documentation, which you can find linked-in the first page of kArmTI's topic. Please take into consideration that for first-timers this is normally a bit difficult. However, many of Omnimaga's young members have successfully done it. Again, you can find a lot of useful info in the kArmTI topic (look at the last posts).
Be patient and you'll get there. Good luck. :)

Now that this is going all the way off-topic, i might just say that you can always start off with short distances travels (to a neighbouring country, for instance) to get a feel, and later decide what you should do next. As already said by DJ, it's not a very good idea to go very far to start with and specially to travel alone when you are very young < 18 years. But do learn to take risks when you're young, it will certainly be very useful, funny and sometimes troublesome as well. :)

So does it emulate well enough for games to "think" that it's a gameboy?
I'm not a game guru, perhaps you may have a look into the 'docs' folder, read the 'game_config.txt' file and see if it clarifies your worries. Also, why don't you test it yourself?

Interesting, but shouldn't this topic be located in the computer section, since this is not a calculator project?
You're probably right. Feel free to move it there, i  don't care, but i guess it has some loose connection with some calc projects.

Thank you hoffa for the beautiful nSDL. I can perfectly understand your move, although I do not wholeheartedly believe it that much. Sooner rather than later you'll come back to Omnimaga. You're a popular guy around here. Also, i think TI-Nspire we'll very soon be a past toy, because its architecture and price is being overcome by way better alternatives. TI will probably have to change their PR with students/developers if they want to survive. I guess they're getting too old and greedy without realizing it. ;)

However you'll need to do some work before it's better than VisualBoyAdvance.
Well, that's not the point here! I agree that VisualBoyAdvance is a rather good and established emulator, but if you care to have a look at the source code, you'll be surprised because it is not so tidy as you would expect and wish it to be. IMO, gpSP is much simpler (maybe, faster too) and the source code is easier to follow. Also, you (not me ;)) can always try to add some extra features if you wish and have the required knowledge.

Are there many bugs?
Nope, not that i'm aware of, anyway.

A few months ago, i've decided to have a look at the source code of gpSP, released by Exophase + zodttd + notaz (google it...). I've played with for a while and managed to get it compiled with CodeBlocks.
Because i'll be busy, due to professional stuff (yeah, i still work), i've decided to release it, as is, to the crowds so that it will eventually motivate young student programmers into the game console development world.
It has sound and a GUI very similar to the one found in the ti-nspire by calc84maniac. So here it is. Play with it and see if you can learn some useful stuff.
To run some games, as usual, we'll need to find the games and the bios file named 'gba_bios.bin', which i can't distribute for obvious reasons.

Please find in youtube description, how to download both the executable and the source code.
------>
To compile it, you'll need the following libraries SDL and ZIP installed,e.g:
        <CodeBlocks-install-dir>\MinGW\lib\
            libSDL.la + libSDL.dll.a
            libSDLmain.a
            ..
            libz.a
            zlib.dll.a
<------
Have some more fun,

This is a very nice and useful experiment (and not a silly one, IMO), but i'm afraid we still need to dig a bit further into the hard part, i mean, the reverse-engineering.;)

Ah, yeah, 6 chars :) Indeed, pretty fast
Ah,Ah... even faster, look closely using 'Google Translate' in the above cncalc link and you'll notice the guy explains how he got the 'Prime' password. :P

Fine! :) Why doesn't the explorer picture look as good as the one in TI-Planet's post? Can anyone fix it? x.x

Nothing mentioned about that little orange pcb though. I would love to have a picture of it removed from the calc if possible.
Or a higher resolution picture of the motherboard only would also help, I'd say!

Edit: I've just removed the direct link. Tell me if you change your mind. I know it's a difficult decision, especially for this topic.
Now we get a feel on how touchy this topic might become in the short term. Maybe the Omni administration could provide some help here, before it's too late and topic becomes locked? :(

I was trying to reply to Keoni29 not to critor. Also, it has some replies on it that mention the buzzer+uart! ;)
Unfortunately, the thread has stopped a bit too short.

That's probably the goal of this topic, as stated by DJ in the first post ?
The hpwiki could contain such information as well.
Yeah, this time, i completely with you, weird he? ;) Sooner or later that info will be uncovered, anyway.
