Calculator C / Re: [Ndless SDK] Problems with the integrated emulator
« on: June 07, 2013, 09:51:56 am »
...
Edit6: Finally fixed it! All you have to do is copy it to the "C:\" directory. FYI I used the trick SpiroH used to get the boot2.img.tns.

Good exercise! Surely other people will benefit from it.
Also:
1. There's a good introduction on ndless 'native development' here: http://ndlessly.wordpress.com/native-development-intro/ . Under 'The Ndless SDK/OnWindows' it states: "Unzip the SDK archive. Make sure that no parent directory contains a space in its name.".

2. You should strikethrough the second paragraph of your post, that reads "I tried what SpiroH did but that didn't work".

I tried with a new OS and new Boot2 image(ti-planet doesn't have a boot1 image). Still didn't work. :/ Where can I find a good boot1 image(CX 3.1)?
Yeah, that can be 'the' problem. Alas, as already mentionned many times, we aren't allowed (by TI) to  distribute this 'boot1' file. Only owners of that specific calc are allowed to dump it (using PolyDumper).
Of course, there are other means to get it, but we shouldn't carry on with this type of dialog in public. Besides, it's against the forum basic rules, so please do not ask for it again. Good luck.

I don't have a good one. D:

You can find a lot of TI_OS images here: http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=3718%5b/url

Direct link to 'OS TI-Nspireā„¢ CX (v 3.1)' :  http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=3717

Download the file 'TI-NspireCX-3.1.0.392.tco' and rename it to 'TICX-3.1.0.392.tco' (chop off  '-Nspire'). I just did and it works just fine.

It seems to me that the problem's answer is in the console output: you've got a crippled TI-OS image! Try a good one!

Hi again,
Let me show you a typical kArmTI v1.25 start-up sequence:
a) Files needed:

b) Boot options:

c) Start up until you'll need to press 'I' to install:

d) First dialog to customize installation:

It works on my system. Hope this will help other people as well. Btw, why don't you try kArmTI v1.27 instead, which is accompanied by a lot of support docs?

Thanks to Wayne and Levak.

Hey SpenceBoy98,

Looking only at the command line, obviously it should work! I have some questions/suggestions you might want to consider to help debugging the issue:
1. How did you get 'Boot1cx.img' and 'Boot2cx.img' files? With 'Polydumper', i assume. From the picture you've posted we cannot see the file sizes, what would help to ascertain if there's nothing wrong with that step.
2. Assuming these 2 boot files are correct, then you can use them to start the original TI-nspire emulator (nspire_emu) by Goplat. (The command line is the same, btw).
3. If 'nspire_emu' starts fine, then it's a 'kArmTI' bug, definetely (it can happen!).  If not, then you have a problem with the boot files. Try these suggestions and let us know about it. Hope you'll fix it soon. Cheers.

I've just downloaded and tried it in the emulator.
It seems to work just fine. Good job. Thanks!

As a workaround you can always extract boot2.img directly from the TI file: 'TI-NspireCXCAS-3.1.0.392.tcc'. Do the following:
1. Make a copy and rename 'TI-NspireCXCAS-3.1.0.392 - Copy.tcc' to 'TI-NspireCXCAS-3.1.0.392 - Copy.zip'
2. Open up 'TI-NspireCXCAS-3.1.0.392 - Copy.zip' and you should see a picture like the one below:

3. Drag the boot2.img out of the zip archive.
4. Rename it to 'boot2.img.tns' and try to start the emulator. Cheers,

It seems to me you've got the wrong file size for boot2.img.tns. It should be 855KB and not 1,328KB. Double-check it and try again.
Maybe this pic will help you a little: http://ourl.ca/16585;msg=253482
Best of luck,

Maybe wirte a feature that allows you to explore, to a greater extent, the purpose of a task and/or what and/or how it does what it is doing? Monitor the CPU for different things like I/O and the memory section with a viewer for the selected task? A scheduler and a performance monitor, as well as a memory viewer, is always a nice feature :) I give ideas! I don't know how to implement them yet :P
Nice ideas indeed! But that implies quite a bit of digging up. ;) Why not give it a try and come up with some substance? You can do it!

.. EDIT: Also Spiro, might I ask you to write Nspire instead of nSpire? Nspire is the official spelling. (Proof)
Done! BTW, It's SpiroH not Spiro! :)

After some quietness, here is an update (v0.5 - still beta!) to nSpiKx, mainly consisting of UsbExplorer improvements and bug-fixing.
It has been tested mostly on Snow Leopard and also a little on Mountain Lion. There are still occasional hang-ups but not as frequent. I'll try to upload a movie illustrating the functionality a bit later.
Enjoy and please report your good or bad experiences. Thanks,

EDIT1: I've uploaded a 9min movie (.mov) illustrating the UsbExplorer funcionality: nSpiKx_v05 Usb Explorer in action .
EDIT2: I've fixed a console bug when entering the debugger :-[. Added a new attachment so that people notice it.
