So i think I know what's up. The bottom part of the contacts on the game are in really bad condition. When I bend the game away from me, the top (good) part of the contacts is making contact with the Gameboy. So I guess I'll have to find sorm way to repair the contacts.

Try taking the cartridge apart and look for damage.
I tried to do the thing where you heat up a pen and make a tool for opening these carts, but that didn't work. So I guess I'll just have to get an actual bit to open this. It'll be a while :P
Ok I got the pen thing to work and the PCB looks fine. I don't see any broken pins or soldering...so I don't really know what to do now.

My copy of Pokemon Red used to start fine, but now it never does. I just see the "Nintendo" logo with a bunch of dots above it when I try to play it. The cart makes a rattling sound, and I did get it to work in my GBA SP by bending the cart towards me (while holding the GBA) while turning on the GBA. But if I let go of the cart, the game immediately freezes. The cart's contacts are clean, and both Gameboys work fine. What can I do (if anything)?

--- OS Version 0.0.4.0 ---

-Added partial date support (no leap years, no DST)
-Added date setting capability

--- OS Version 0.0.4.1 ---

-Fixed AM/PM displaying at wrong times
-Added leap year support

Here's an updated presentation of the device:

Here's the device itself.

Here's the main menu.

Here's the clock. (It's not set yet!)

Here's the stopwatch. It's really simple. Scroll starts/stops, and Accept resets.

App support isn't implemented yet, so I can't show any pictures of that!

Here's the settings menu. All of the options actually work here!

Here's how to set the time. Scroll changes the number, and Accept continues to next field.

Here's how to set the date. The controls are the same as setting the time.

The System Info screen only shows version number. When app support is implemented, it will show free memory.

--- OS Version 0.0.3.5 ---

-Stopwatch works again!
-Added 2 more options in the Settings menu: Time Format (12-hour and 24-hour) and Date Format (M/D/Y and D/M/Y).
-Changed clock display routine so that it always uses 24-hour time and displays the AM/PM on the fly if 12-hour is selected in Settings.

Hmm upon closer inspection it's probably best if I re-wrote this thing some day :P
Don't worry about it. :P Pickaxe is going to be similar to Brainfuck anyways.

(or maybe i should make it only programmable in spyrodecimal :P)

Not a big UI change, but a big under-the-hood change. I'm using a new, interrupt-based timer library. Now  I don't need to keep calling the clock routine in the program. Just set and forget.

I wrote a brainfuck interpreter and code editor for the arduino. It works with 3 buttons and it is pretty basic, but perhaps you can make use of it. You'd have to modify it to work with a character display.
Sure, why not? I'll put it in if I have enough program space left after the Pickaxe interpreter.

So I did a lot of work today.
Here's the completely new device.

The device has a 16 character, 2 line LCD display and is powered by my Arduino Uno.
It has 3 buttons: Scroll (B1), Accept (B2), and Exit (B3).

Let's look at the main menu, which has 5 options:

Here's the clock. Pretty simple:

Here's how to set the clock. (The interface could use a bit of work.) B1 scrolls through the numbers and B2 saves.

Now on to the stopwatch. It's really simple. B1 starts/stops and B2 resets. Look at that screen ghosting!

The ability to run apps hasn't been programmed yet. It'll be a while.

The settings menu has two options: set time and date. Date hasn't been programmed yet.

The system info screen shows only the OS version right now. When apps are programmed, it will probably show free memory.

So yeah. This is actually a thing again.

Some more info bits:

-I'm not going to program the ability to write programs on the device. At least, I don't think. I'll still be making the Pickaxe programming language though.

-The clock is done entirely through software. Whenever the clock is opened, it checks how many milliseconds the Arduino has been turned on for. It then compares that to the value it saved from the last time it ran, and advances the clock by that amount. The clock is also running in the background (technically, it isn't running in the background but whatever) whenever the main menu and most other screens are open.

Have any questions/feedback/etc.? Please reply!

I got a Vizio smart TV and a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard. Both of which are awesome.

Also I don't know if I would count this is a Christmas present or not but I recently set up a desktop computer with a bunch of emulators and games and connected it to the living room TV for my dad. So that's something.

Share with us what you got and what you gave! (Christmas hasn't happened yet for me, as I'm in the US.)

Music Showcase / Re: My first attempts at music

Attempt 1 is not bad for a start actually. I don't know if you used pre-made melodies or made your own, but unlike most beginner electronic music artists, your bassline is not out of key (except starting at 1:44). I   like the effects too.
I made the melodies myself :) I'm still terrible at bass stuff though.

As for the 2nd one the style is different but I like the spacey effects or whatever they are called. That's definitively some trippy stuff you got there. :P (bass is fine in general too. I don't know if the key is the right one but with the varying bass melody it fits well) :)
Thanks! I think the 2nd one is much better than the 1st one. I like the style more.

So I've been trying to make music the past couple weeks.

Here are my two best (and most recent) attempts. All of my other attempts are crap. :P

Attempt 1: (Not that good) https://soundcloud.com/frostion/practice-session-1

Attempt 2: (A bit better) https://soundcloud.com/frostion/practice-session-2-super-special-auxy-update-edition

My avatar is a cool thing I made. That's all there really is to it. :P

I fixed the problem. It turns out that some of the RAM in the computer was bad. I took out the bad RAM and everything works fine now.

So I have this old Dell Dimension 4700 that I want to use as a dedicated emulation box. For some reason though, parts of the Lubuntu greeter will appear (just the wallpaper and the mouse) for a few seconds, then turn into a black screen with a blinking cursor. When I try to log in with one of the other TTYs, it will show the "Welcome to Ubuntu" text for a split second, then go right back to the login prompt. I'm using Lubuntu 13.10. Any thoughts? It worked just fine before today.

Also, another weird thing. I tried to reinstall Lubuntu, but the installer kernel panics (and shows no useful information) as soon as I hit "Install" or "Try Lubuntu without installing".
