Web Programming and Design / HTML form help needed
« on: July 13, 2011, 11:57:58 am »
On my website, I am making an HTML form that someone would fill out to request a custom-made operating system. (My friend and I take requests for custom operating systems and I wanted to make a form that someone could use to request an OS) I once made a test form. This is the email that it sent me:
Code: [Select]
name=test
[email protected]
comment=This is a test email.
Submit=Submit
Look at this. New lines, spaces in-between words, and special characters are shown correctly.
Now look at the output for the form used to request OSes:
Code: [Select]
username=Aaron&useremail=acrennie%40gmail.com&osname=Testing+This+Form&osdescription=Just+testing+this+form+%3A3+%0D%0A&ostype=kde&logo=AdviceBackground.png&wallpaper=AdviceBackground.png&includepkgs=Packages+and+stuffz+%3AP&publishtogallery=yesThis is formatted for putting in a URL. Why is it like this? I used the exact same parameters for this one as I did for my old test form.
If you need it, here is the source code for the form:
Code: [Select]
<form action="MAILTO:[email protected]" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data" name="EmailTestForm">
Your Name:<br>
<input type="text" size="20" name="username"><br>
Your Email Address<br>
<input type="text" size="20" name="useremail"><br>
OS Name:<br>
<input type="text" size="20" name="osname"><br>
OS Description:<br>
<textarea name="osdescription" rows="10" cols="40" wrap="physical"></textarea><br>
Select a desktop interface:<br>
<select name="ostype">
<option value="noneselected">Select an interface</option>
<option value="jeos">Just Enough OS</option>
<option value="kde">K Desktop Environment (KDE)</option>
<option value="gnome">Gnome Desktop Environment</option>
<option value="server">Server (Text-Only)</option>
<option value="minimalx">Minimal X (IceWM)</option>
</select><br>
Add a logo:<br>
<input name="logo" type="file" /><br>
Add a wallpaper:<br>
<input name="wallpaper" type="file" /><br>
If no logo or wallpaper added, the standard SuSE logo and/or wallpaper will be used.<br><br>
List the packages wanted here. Remember, this is a SuSE OS, so make sure the packages you are listing are SuSE-compatible.<br>
<textarea name="includepkgs" rows="10" cols="40" wrap="physical"></textarea><br>
Do you want this OS to be publicly shown on SuSE Gallery?<br>
<input type="radio" name="publishtogallery" value="yes">Yes
<input type="radio" name="publishtogallery" value="no">No<br>
<input type="submit" value="Send Request"></form>
Sorry, but I do not have the source for my old test form.

My question is, how can I make the OS form output readable, just like the old test form?

Will this ever run *.jar files? It would be hard, as Prizm has no QWERTY keyboard, not all the QWERTY keyboard keys are on the Prizm, and it has no mouse. (There goes Logisim :'()

Can I select every option there? DJ_O is all of this and more. He is a great and reliable friend, always checking up on people and projects. DJ_O is a blessing to this community, and I think I speak for every-one when I say I love you DJ.

DJ_O, you are the best person I have known...online or offline.
I wish you good luck again for all of your problems, online or offline.
The community loves you, DJ, and you are the best person here.

oh man Pokemon Colosseum. I loved playing the third gen games, Colosseum, Emerald, FireRed, and XD. That was the last time I really had fun playing Pokemon. Now I've outgrown it and it's just eh, but damn those were fond memories.

Pokemon Colosseum is fun :P. I like playing it on our 46" HDTV and my awesomesomeofthebestqualityspeakerseverthatarehigherqualitythantheHDTVbuiltinspeakers (new adjective) speakers.

I think forcing Pokemon into tiny little balls and forcing them to hurt others of their race (not species....) until one faints from pain/exhaustion is evil and mean. thoughts?

But they're not alive! They're just data allocations on a memory chip that run on previously programmed instructions! They can't 'feel' anything!

Enu_N, I am not trying to troll or be mean, but it seems like you're taking Pokemon too far. They don't have feelings, because they are just pictures printed on a card, a molded and painted chunk of plastic, or data allocations on a card/disk/cartridge, not an animal with feelings. Yes, the games are very fun (I still play Pokemon Colosseum), but it's just a game.

Samebull, I agree with you,
pokemon can't be your friends they're just chunks of data in a widely marketed childrens game.

I can understand having fun but i don't think you should take it so seriously

Enu_N, I think I can answer your question:
but what are they TO YOU? What do you treat them as?
I treat them as nonexistent creatures in a video game.

I'm almost ready to cry IRL. I love you, and the community you've created. I love Omnimaga, it's not just because of the awesome games I can get and talk about, it's the nicest community I've ever been in. Ok, my nose is tingling and my eyes are stinging (I'm gonna cry :'() and I really don't want to you go! I wish you the best of luck, DJ_O, in all of your troubles and all of your hardships. I'm too sad to say anything else. :'(
